Inspires equality – New Technology

Ny Teknik’s new blog: GET, gender equality in technology, emphasize practical tools that companies can use to become more equal.

– The IT industry is growing very quickly right now and have big problems recruiting the right people. Then one can not ignore half the population. Gender equality is very important for it to go well for companies, says Alice Marshall, equality and diversity experts in their own company Equality Inc.

The blog on nyteknik.se she makes along with Serge Lachapelle, manager at Google’s office in Stockholm. The blog is a collaboration between Google and New Technology with the aim of both drive public opinion in the industry and give companies practical tools to work with.

– The biggest obstacle today is people who say they are working on gender, but who do not do any practical work. We want to show how to do to actually take the plunge, says Alice Marshall.

The first posts have been about Swedish equality champions in the IT industry. It is a list that started with ten examples, but quickly grew. Now, the blog lists a total of thirty initiatives, mentoring programs, dynamic personalities, conferences and other projects. That’s all from applications that support school girls who are curious about technology networks for women already working in it.

– The tips poured in after the first post, it was funny that we got so much response. This list also means that women working in the art can find the network and not the need to reinvent the wheel by starting new programs, says Alice Marshall.

A post in the Week will be posted on the blog and next to shop on how leaders can work with gender equality. Alice Marshall hopes that readers of the blog will be in touch with what difficulties they have in their work on gender equality and the thoughts she wants to meet with practical tips.

– What we want to highlight is that one need not be afraid to tackle this issue, she said.
