For several weeks Ny Teknik told of future networks to cope with the huge increase in traffic. The new network is a network that will be built on the operators’ terms – and it places tough demands on the system providers.

analysis house Gartner believes that Cisco, Ericsson and Huawei will be the three largest system providers for technology shift when NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) and SDN (Software Defined Networks) and the new network architecture is introduced.

– Huawei will definitely be one of the three major systems suppliers. I’m sure Cisco and Ericsson. But Ericsson must act quickly, they have some catching up to do in terms of NFV and SDN, says Akshay Sharma, an expert in network infrastructure at Gartner.

Today, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei, NSN and ZTE the six largest system suppliers for the telecom industry. Their combined turnover exceeds a trillion dollars per year.

Cisco believes it will be tough for the Chinese suppliers come.

– Cisco has a great location and has been there from the beginning. Our assessment is that Cisco and Ericsson will succeed best among the six systems suppliers. Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, NSN and ZTE will have difficulty competing. Although Intel will likely have a good position, said Fredrik Wester, chief technology officer at Cisco.

– About two or three years we will To see what systems vendors are performing best, he says.

Cisco wants to enter the ranks of the system supplier that delivers the important nodes that handle telecommunications traffic, such as GGSN for mobile network traffic.

GGSN becomes in the future, a virtualized software running in the data center.

– My prediction is that Ericsson, Huawei and NSN and Alcatel / Lucent is the largest system providers of backbone nodes and service nodes for telecom networks in five years, says Bengt Nordström consulting firm North Stream.

– But Samsung may be one of the major system suppliers to the telecom industry. Samsung has received contracts with Vodafone and can even become a supplier to Vodafone in Europe. There may also be some form of consolidation between NSN and Alcatel-Lucent, says Bengt Nordström.

– Cisco aims to become a supplier of backbone nodes and service nodes for telecom networks. My assessment is that Cisco will not have any substantial part of that market, says Bengt Nordström.
