Now inaugurated Elon Musks giant battery factory.

When Elon Musks company Tesla has finished building its battery factory Gigafactory estimated to become the area’s largest factory and cover an area in Nevada at about half a million square meters.

Today, June 29, the first part of the factory inaugurated, writes Wired. Although only about 14 percent of the buildings are still constructed. But around 1000 people work seven days a week to be completed with the construction until 2020. Then the plant annually produce lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 35 GWh. There is more capacity than all the world’s battery manufacturers came up in 2013, writes Tesla.

Today importing Tesla most of their car batteries from Asia but when Gigafactory is complete, production sufficient for the 500,000 electric cars that the company expects to produce per year at a cost per kWh is estimated to be 30 percent lower than today.

Most of the battery manufacturing will be handled by robots but the plant will also employ about 6500 people when it reaches full production capacity.

to operate the factory is a joint venture with Panasonic, the entire roof fitted with photovoltaic cells, supplemented with energy from nearby wind turbines.
