New GPS technology provides precision of just a few centimeters – Auto Motor & Sport

Soon, the GPS technology in your mobile phone or navigator become more than a hundred times better – with the help of smart software that American scientists have developed.

Today’s GPS systems are not especially precise – at least not in ordinary consumer products, the accuracy can vary from one to ten meters. But now, researchers at the University of Texas have developed software to better read the GPS unit’s position.

The advantage is thus that in the future will go to use the built-in GPS unit in the cell phone or navigation system. It is the software that changes which also makes this a cheap solution, according to the researchers. There is no need for expensive special antennas.

The researchers have managed to get a accuracy of just a few centimeters, writes New Technology, and the new company Radio Ensenada where technology evolves partnered with Samsung to build technology in future mobile phones.

In the future, the GPS technique used, for example when vehicles communicate with each other. Then a car warning of an obstacle on the way and show with centimeter precision exactly where the obstacle is.

“Then your car plan ahead and avoid a crash,” said Todd Humphreys in the department of aeronautics and mechanics, in a press release.

I think it is important to develop GPS technology with greater accuracy.
