Juldrömmen difficult for vulnerable children - Swedish Dagbladet

– Christmas is a time when one should be extra happy, and it also makes you become more exposed if it is not, says Agneta Åhlund, head of Save the Children Sweden Program.

Juldrömmen with clapping, brownie and familjemys becomes especially difficult when it is not true.

– Many children suffer when parents drink too much. Christmas is associated with alcohol has many effects, and it also means that there will be more violence in families. Children in difficult custody cases it may be a hassle, as well as children who are forced to live in shelters. And so all unaccompanied refugee and hidden undocumented children.

Sure, vulnerable children having a tough year, but at Christmas becomes a special stress because the expectations are so high, she explains.

– Christmas is a time when you can look around, what can I do for others who have it hard? Christmas should be the children’s festival, and then we should try to put ourselves in the situation of children, trying to imagine what children around us need, says Agneta Åhlund.

Brisbane receives calls from many unfortunate children before and during Christmas. Adult drinking is a common cause.

– We see a clear link between alcohol, threats and abuse. Is it really serious, we can help the child to contact emergency social services, but often they just want to talk to an adult who listens. What we hear is that children crave most to be an ordinary family that has that cozy together. Not so much on Christmas gifts and the material. But the hope is the shimmering Community believing that everyone else has said Karin Johansson, psychologist and investigator at Brisbane.
