Laser pointer without permission can lead to imprisonment - New Technology

Fines or imprisonment of up to two years. It risks the selling or possession of a strong laser pointer from January next year.

Now tighten the rules for strong laser pointer.

As of January 1, it will be prohibited to possess or use laser pointers with an output of more than 1 mW (laser class 3R, 3B and 4) without permission from the SSM.

Those who break the rules risk a fine or imprisonment not exceeding two years.

– We hope that the ban makes it easier for the judiciary to intervene when strong laser pointer is used in a wrong way. The ban also makes it harder for those who wish to bring laser pointers to Sweden from abroad, says Pernilla Sopher, investigators at the Radiation Safety in a press release.

Anyone who has a strong laser pointers have until March 1 on how to dispose of it or seek permission.

This requires that an applicant can “demonstrate a need to use the laser pointer and the safe use of radiation safety.”

It is many years a problem to police officers, pilots and professional drivers will be dazzled with strong laser pointer, which can cause permanent damage to eyesight.
