Enterprise. A critical for Cementas continued limestone mining in Skovde lingers. Meanwhile, the company is investing in new technology at the plant in Skövde.

It will likely well into next year before the Land and Environment Court notice of Cementation get a new permit to break limestone . The current authorization expires in 2017.

It does not Cementation from developing Skövde factory.

– In the factory we are working intensively to develop a new product with a lower environmental impact than today’s cement, said plant manager Matilda Hoffstedt.

It is to partly replace burned limestone with fly ash from coal plants.

– We save on new raw materials when we receive the waste products from other industries. The fly ash is mixed into the cement and works a bit like limestone, says Matilda Hoffstedt.

When Cementation burning of limestone releases large amounts of carbon dioxide and fly ash can be used in place avoids the emissions, even if the carbon dioxide released in coal power plant.

However, you can not use the ash from such heat source in Skovde, when the waste is incinerated which is mixed.

At the end of June will attempt shall be made at the Skövde factory and it is hoped that it will be fully operational next year. At Cementa plant in Slite already used fly ash, but for Skövde factory has there been a greater challenge to logistics.

– The Group continues to invest in Skövde factory. It is a future factory, says Matilda Hoffstedt.

New supplementation

Cementation left in May in a supplement to its application to the Land and Environment Court, which will take up the application again after the Land and Environmental Court brought back the case to it. The completion includes a summary of how Natura 2000 area affected.

The court now sends the material to the authorities that the provincial government, MOS, SGU and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, which may require further additions. If new studies are needed may take time. Since the entire material sent out for consultation, before it is time for a new main hearing.

– In theory, the main hearing be held before the end of the year, but a judgment before the end of the year is more unlikely, said Joe Morales, technical advice at the Land and Environment Court.

Matilda Hoffstedt says she hopes for an answer during the year, but it will not get the company to adapt. She assumes that Cementation will get a new license.

– We have such a good application today. I do not see that we would not get permission. The question is not if but how to break limestone, says Matilda Hoffstedt.

Resistance

Elf Smith, spokesperson for the network Rescue Våmbsdalen, she did not believe that Cementation get a new license.

– We believe that the substance of its previous judgment in the Land and Environment Court is strong. That has not changed, he says.

If the judgment would give Cementation new state will certainly be appealed, according to Elf Svensson.
