Tesla Factory important when Panasonic choose the car road – New Technology

Panasonic shoulders a big burden of Tesla’s battery factory, an important choice when the electronics giant steering away from unprofitable mobile telephony and television.

Hundratals Japanese battery experts will participate in the reconstruction of Tesla’s large battery factory in Nevada. Besides investing staff shall Panasonic take up to 40 percent of the investment totaling 40 billion, reports Reuters.

Panasonic is already a major supplier of lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles and electric hybrids, with the famous car brands like Toyota and Tesla as customers.

And the Japanese electronics giant has clearly chosen the road were now fully focus on the automotive industry. From having been a leader in the development and manufacture of plasma televisions, and a leading manufacturer of mobile phones, the company has done away with the production of these in Japan unprofitable segments, to instead align itself as a supplier to the automotive industry.

In addition to the heavy investment in Tesla’s battery plant Gigafactory has bought a large stake in the Spanish FICOSA that develops technologies for driver assistance. There are technologies that can be developed to handle self-propelled cars.

Reuters says Yoshio Ito, director of Panasonic’s Division for the automotive and industrial systems, the company would consider partnerships with other players to match subcontracting giants such as Continental, Bosch and Denso.
