VL prepares for the future – Vestmanlands County Newspaper

VL’s ticketing system is over 20 years old and starting to get really worn. In August, it is replaced with a new one that will make bus travel easier for passengers and drivers.

Vasteras. The technology in VL’s buses, including when it comes to tickets, has seen its best days.

Right now work is underway to train staff in the VL in a new system to be placed in the county all the buses starting in August.

-The current system is over 20 years old, worn out and exhausted. Hopefully, we are completely ready with the change in Västerås 16 to 17 August, and somewhat later around the county.

The technology has evolved a lot over the last 20 years and this will make it better for passengers and drivers as well as in terms of traffic , says Marie Christensson, Marketing and Communications at VL.

The new technology will also make it possible to follow in real time All of buses on a map to an exact location on the web.

– Today, one can see the signs at the bus stop about how many minutes are left until the bus comes, but this will be much more reliable. It will sit transmitter and receiver on all buses, even out in the county, said Marie Christensson.

The buses will also be equipped with free wifi and traffic counters to VL easier to measure when and where the AKS most bus.

– Each time a person goes on or the system calculates this and that way we can monitor traffic, plan and adapt the traffic to come.

The machines where passengers registering their tickets will also be replaced and new cards will be needed. Overall, says Marie Christensson that information to the VL’s travelers will be significantly improved.

– We’ll try to get a smooth transition with the replacement of cards, and also the installation of the new systems. There will be no abrupt change of the cards, but we try to do it smoothly, she said.

It sounds expensive with all these changes.

– I do not have any details on how much it costs. It is clear that there will be some money, but it’s worth it considering what we get for the money and that the current system ends and the technology obsolete. We are within budget, says Marie Christensson.

The ticket prices for passengers will not be affected by technology change. After the change, it will be possible to buy and download their VL card on the website, after you have created an account.

What have you got for feedback from your driver?

– only positive. We are training them in the new systems now and I’ve only heard good things. It will be a better working environment for those using this technique, says Marie Christensson.

VL will launch a major information campaign in August.
