New technology for storing electricity on the rise – Aftonbladet

Solar and wind power are placing new demands on the ability to store energy.

Several new technologies are in the pipeline. But today get energy stocks only used in emergencies.

– The Electricity Act needs to be reviewed, says Anna Nordling, project manager for a new report from the IVA.

During the summer, the solar energy set new records. In Germany, photovoltaic plants in July more electricity than nuclear power plants.

But with more renewable energy is needed ways to store electricity, writes the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA, in a new report.

– Hydro and nuclear power, we can control to a large extent. But we can not control when the wind and solar energy will produce electricity. Therefore, we must be able to store electricity and use it whenever we need, says project manager Anna Nordling.

Faster than expected

The development could go faster than previously thought. In recent years, prices of batteries crumbled. Still, many were surprised to Tesla’s new battery for home use, Power Wall, which can be used in conjunction with photovoltaic cells or to store cheap electricity at a later date, just costs around 28,000 kronor for 10kWh. The battery was a huge success when it was released in May.

– No one believed that it would become so cheap. This means that there is now a better market for batteries. That in turn means more money for further development. It becomes a virtuous cycle, says Anna Nordling.

Several other technologies for energy storage are in the pipeline, including plans for a demonstration plant for converting electricity to natural gas on the island.

Rules destroying development

But progress slowed by ambiguities in the regulations in how energy stocks to be used, type IVA. The electricity network companies may own energy stocks, but they may only use them to cover network losses or to replace the power cuts. For energy storage to be used on a large scale requires an amendment of the law.

– We must review the regulations to make it easier for network operators, says Anna Nordling.

Technically speaking, would Sweden able to switch completely to renewable energy.

– The technology, along with storage, available but it is about cost and space. Right now missing people looking to invest in the energy industry. It’s about creating a good deal about the energy issue.

H & M is looking technologies for the recycling of clothes – New Technology

There is a lack of technologies to recover textiles, especially to separate different kinds of interwoven fiber. Photo: Alamy

The clothing giant H & amp; M looking for new techniques to recycle clothes. Owner family Foundation today launches a competition to find the best new innovation ideas.

H & amp; M -butikerna pulls shortly launch a major launch for the new fashion jeans that contains a mix of new and recycled fibers. Clothing giant has so far accumulated about 18 000 tonnes of discarded textiles globally.

But there is a glaring lack of techniques that can be used to recycle the different textile materials. It is particularly difficult to separate the different types of interwoven fiber. In the current situation, it is only a few fibers that can be recycled.

H & amp; M’s foundation attracts today because Started a global competition – The Global Change Award – where five winners sharing a total of one million euros or about ten million. Half of the money is distributed by the foundation – and half of the public in February next year can vote on which idea you think is best.

– We do this because the industry needs to find new approaches in the entire fashion value chain and change how the garments are designed, produced, transported, purchased, used and recycled, says Malin Björne, communications manager at the foundation. The latter is run by donations from the company’s owner, Stefan Persson and family. Here she describes what kinds of technologies that are in demand:

– The innovations can be anything from a new type of fiber for improved recycling technologies or already in the design stage, finding innovative ways to garments easily be recycled.

According to Malin Björne the goal is to obtain a circular model for the clothing management , ie to try to stop the cycle and reduce the pressures on natural resources and also reduce water consumption.

– It is easier for the Foundation to venture into such a project than for the company H & amp; M because the Foundation is able to support the early innovations without having to take into account the investment risk in the same way as a company, says she.

- We want to supplement the H & amp; Ms sustainability work, which included working with the collection of clothes, but this is an issue that is important for the entire fashion industry.

The winner will also receive support to develop their idea of the foundation’s partners during the competition, KTH innovation and consulting company Accenture.

Vinnarna appointed by an international jury. From the Swedish side participates Johan Rockström, Professor of Environmental Science at Stockholm University.

Aussie drönarpiloten: “Landa if you see a bird of prey” – New Technology

Do not like the drones …

Take heed drönaroperatörer: When large birds of prey show up you doing best in the land.

Rekommendationen comes from hobby pilot Adam Lancaster of Australia, who last summer was flying with his unmanned drones in the wooded regions around big city of Melbourne.

Plötsligt appeared a kilstjärtsörn up and went to the fierce attack. The eagle tried burly beat claws in his “prey”.

On a video that Adam Lancaster (Melborne Aerial Video) managed to take the moment – and he put up on YouTube – is clearly visible how the eagle completely knocks drone falling to the ground and becomes scrap. Here, in a slow-motion version.

According to Adam Lancaster circled eagle first around the drone a little while. Then it disappeared, to suddenly reappear behind a tree again before it hit with full force.

He said that the drone were injured, but the eagle escaped without injury from the tumult. Self outweigh the Australian avoid wildlife to come when he is flying with drones.

-If you see a bird of prey when flying, so land. I have put this into my control commands, said he.

It is not unusual that animals react to the drones that are hanging in the air near them and buzzes. It reports CNN in a video on the topic, where even an alligator and bees are trying to attack the small air craft.

Here is another example When a hawk attacking a quadro Copts in Magazine Beach Park in British Cambridge. The drone has no chance against the attacking bird, possibly just looking to defend himself and his territory.

The gap Huawei is likely to continue to increase “- New Technology

ANALYSIS. Huawei overtake Ericsson fierce momentum. Now also on the cardiovascular area – mobile networks. And the gap is likely to continue to grow.

Huawei has for several years been higher than Ericsson, based on company’s entire sales. Last year, Huawei generated sales of around 325 billion, the Ericsson 228 billion.

It is now eight years ago that Ericsson was almost double Basically it you young Chinese upstart. 2007 Ericsson had a turnover 188 billion, while Huawei’s sales were only 82 billion.

Huawei’s trip has thus been amazing. From 82-325 billion in eight years. At the same time, Ericsson has gone 188-228.

The Chinese growth has also occurred with profitability. Last year’s profit was over 30 billion. Ericsson’s operating profit was about half.

And it is not just China that Huawei sells its merchandise and services. 60 percent of sales come outside the domestic market.

An explanation of Huawei’s strong growth is the focus on mobile phones. They account for almost a quarter of sales nowadays. Another bubbler of Huawei’s business equipment, Enterprise.

There are two major markets that Ericsson chose to leave.

But on mobile systems, the Swedish telecom star continued to shine brightest. In the last annual report reiterates the company’s market position: “# 1 in the radio access”.

But even there, now Huawei thus overtaken Ericsson. It must be a hard blow for chief executive Hans Vestberg, who always tend to mention his company’s unique position in mobile systems.

Ericsson’s technical solution mobile systems are not worse. But even better, according to industry analysts who have participated in tenders. The main reason for that Vestberg lost first place right now is China’s ongoing deployment of 4G networks.

It is clearly more difficult for Ericsson to enter the Chinese operators – for political reasons. But it has been equally difficult for Huawei to enter the US operators – for political reasons. And in the US, it is Ericsson, which dominates the mobile market.

Around the turn of the year told Hans Vestberg for New Technology for its new efforts to get boost growth. This includes about routers, cloud and network society. So far, the markets are very small in comparison with mobile systems and mobile phones.

Huawei expects continued strong growth, and says it is working to increase sales by another 50 percent by 2018. Thus approximately 10 percent per year. Some equally ambitious targets have not Vestberg published.

He expects an annual growth of 3-5 percent in the markets where the Company is active between the years 2013 to 1017.

So expect that the gap is increasing.

Forbes: Tesla is the world’s most innovative companies – New Technology

The magazine Forbes has named the 100 most innovative companies in 2015. The only Swedish contribution surprises.

For the fifth time, Forbes magazine lists the world’s most innovative company. The ranking is based on valuations made by financial investors. “The list includes companies that investors believe have the best chance of coming up with the next big innovation,” the paper said.

For the first time, topped the list of Tesla. Among the top ten are only two non-US-based companies: British semiconductor company ARM and Unilever Indonesia.

Among the 100 most innovative companies are Only a Swedish company. Sandvik and Atlas Copco has been in the past. But not this time. Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the clothing chain H & amp; M who entered on a 86th place. Thus not Tobii, or any other of the small developing companies with advanced technology, which has a low market capitalization to rangeb (see below).

Among the most innovative companies are not Apple or Google, however, Netflix (27), Starbucks (45) and Coca Cola (81).

The explanation perhaps slightly odd selection depends on the” formula “for the rankings, which Forbes calls the Innovation Premium. It is calculated as the difference between a company’s market capitalization (minus liabilities) and valuation of future income (cash flows) from existing operations.

To get on the list, the company must also be able to present the seven years of official data and have at least $ 10 billion in market capitalization. On the list are also only companies investing in research and development, so banks are excluded. Neither the energy and mining companies are included, whose market capitalization is more linked to commodity prices than innovation, the paper said.

Previously, Sandvik and Atlas Copco been on the Forbes list, but then did not this time.

Many travelers hit by the train stop – New Technology

The stop hit many travelers. Photo: Fredrik Sandberg / TT

Another great train stop between Stockholm and Uppsala occurred yesterday and affected tens of thousands of travelers.

UPDATED: A Pulled down overhead on the route Rotebro- Upplands Väsby between Stockholm and Uppsala occurred at 17 o’clock yesterday – in the middle of rush hour traffic – and caused the first stop in the railway traffic, and then long delays.

Enligt Lena Karlsson, the press officer at the Swedish Transport Administration, the authority in charge of the courses, their forecast this morning that the error should be corrected at 10 o’clock in the day.

A half hour later announces Lena Karlsson to the extent of the defect is larger than expected and the forecast now is that the trains will go back to normal from the clock 12th

– The repair has been working since yesterday evening, all night and this morning, she said.

Exactly what caused the energized catenary torn down she does not know.

– There may be several reasons. It can be trains tearing them down, or birds flying into the overhead lines, there may be short circuit or sabotage that when branches thrown on the lines, she says.

The disturbances include long-distance trains, Arlanda Express and SL train.

While the line is repaired power supply switched off in two of four paths for operators to work safely, said Lena Karlsson.

Dongfeng wants Saab Technology – New Technology

The Chinese state giant truck Dongfeng are interested in Saab’s old Phoenix architecture developed further by Nevs.

Nevs and Dongfeng Motor have signed a ‘strategic cooperation agreement in order to reach” common global industrial synergies “. The very different majors promise to support each other including the use of each other’s networks in purchasing and distribution. The agreement contains nothing about financial support to Nevs.

Behind the rather general wording of the agreement is a common interest of the Phoenix architecture, Saab started work for more than five years ago. It was presented as basically completed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011, but the truth is that there is still much development work before you can start building the cars from it.

– We’ve been working with them since we bought Saab and including adapted it for electric power, says Mikael Östlund.

The idea is that Dongfeng should pay Nevs to engineers in Trollhättan will now make clear the Phoenix architecture. Then both companies access to technology.

Since the beginning of July, the two companies have gone through different ways of using the Phoenix architecture of Dongfeng products . Nevs have been paid for that work. How much, and how extensive the assignment is, do not want to tell Mikael Östlund.

Dongfeng has been at the side of the trucks manufacture of both passenger cars electric vehicles with great development potential.

Dongfeng has strategic partnerships with international vehicle manufacturers such as Volvo, owns 14 percent stake in PSA, and has joint venture in China with Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Nissan, Infinity, Honda and Kia.

The question is what to be with Nevs to?

– This is about the IP (Intellectual Properties). Most car companies do not want to share their technical expertise. But we want. It’s part of our business plan. Phoenix architecture can be deployed to build both cars with a combustion engine and electric cars. But there is still no written agreement on this, says Mikael Östlund, head of communications at Nevs.

Dongfeng takes some time there from Saab spun-off T Engineering with 40 employees in Trollhättan.

Nevs immediate plans are to start construction of a production plant in China Money from the Chinese shareholders, Tianjin City (where the factory is to be built) and the two IT companies SRIT and Teamsun.

– There must happen soon, and take good few years to get ready. Meanwhile, we will develop the cars that will be manufactured there. We also have R & D in China, but everything will be led from Trollhattan, says Mikael Östlund.

It all depends therefore on whether the can get money to make clear the Phoenix architecture. Otherwise, the 17-year-old 9-3, electrified or with internal combustion engine, the only car model Nevs have rights to.

Plans Trollhattan factory is still unclear.

Dongfeng had in 2014 a total of 176 000 full-time employees and produced 3.83 million vehicles. Turnover was 483 million RNB, about as many crowns.

The breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of the running track – Aftonbladet

The police have secured DNA traces in the investigation of the murder of 21-year-old woman in Upplands Väsby.

Now comes the interesting people to topsas.

– It gives us a good opportunity to get hold of the murderer, says the press spokesperson Lars Bystrom.

It was at the technical investigation of the place where the 21-year-old found that the police secured DNA traces. DNA profile is not in the police records.

The tracks strengthens police hopes to clear up the crime.

– It gives us a good opportunity to get hold of the murderer, says Lars Bystrom , spokesperson for the police in Stockholm.

People topsas

The police are still reticent about the investigation. Lars Bystrom would not comment on what type of DNA evidence in the case if, or where they found the tracks.

– We comment anything about the crime scene.

Now that one has DNA from a suspected offender, the people who are interesting in the investigation that topsas, therefore, that the police are taking saliva samples from individuals.

– Then we can compare the samples with the DNA evidence we now have. And several people have already topsats.

Was out on löptur

At 18:30 pm Aug. 5 gave 21-year-old woman out for a jog in Runby exercise area in Upplands Vasby, north of Stockholm. When she did not come back at 21 o’clock struck her family alarm to the police.

After a great sökinsats found the woman shortly after at 02 dead in connection with the running track. Circumstances at the site meant that the police quickly became suspicious that the woman had been murdered.

Have been monitoring movies

During the investigation, the police has studied material from surveillance cameras located at Runby school, where running track begins. However, it is unclear whether the films could bring the investigation forward.

The police have also conducted numerous interviews with people who moved into the area. Investigators, however, remains interested in getting in contact with people who may have interesting information.

“People who have made observations are aware of someone who behaved in a different way before, during or after the time of offense, or otherwise have information to offer, are invited to get in touch, “writes the police on his website.

SMS led to car-notch – New Technology

With an sms researchers could, among other things, to start the vehicle’s windshield wipers. Photo: mrlanrat

A group of researchers in the US has managed to hack a car through texting.

This summer, media reported on several different ways to hack into cars.

Now researchers at the University of California at San Diego managed to hack into a Corvette just by sending SMS – or text messages via mobile phones.

The method could for example access to remotely control the car, turn on the windshield wipers and brakes, reports The Guardian.

The researchers’ aim was to test the security of small modems, dongles, insurance and transport companies often require vehicles to be fitted with. These are connected to the electronics in the car via a USB port in the diagnostic connector.

Using dong glands, companies can track and collect data on vehicles’ fuel consumption and other technical information.

The investigated modems were manufactured by the company Mobile Devices, and distributed to the American insurance company Metro Mile to customers who pay vehicle insurance per miltaxa. Even the taxi company Uber in the United States use dong glands.

– We purchased some of this stuff, watched how they worked, and found along the way they had a bunch of security problems, says Stefan Savage, a professor of security, leading the research team, to The Guardian. He warns that other similar dongles can also be chopped.

The findings will be presented this week at the Usenix 2015 conference in Washington.

Electric cars in Europe, bad for the environment – New Technology

Car with efficient internal combustion engine still greener in Europe than vehicles with batteries and fuel cells. The snag is the electricity mix in the EU, which contains the small proportion of renewable electricity.

Environmental friendliness of fuel cell vehicles is totally dependent on hydrogen from renewable sources, such as produced by electrolysis using electricity from wind turbines. The Swedish energy mix allows the fuel cell to a winner, but dirty Europael make it an environmentally inferior alternative to battery-powered cars, which in turn is worse than efficient gasoline cars.

This is an international research group at the Swiss Federal Institute for Materials Science and Technology, the EMPA, which conducted a comprehensive life cycle analysis on cars with fuel cells, batteries and internal combustion engine. Scientists have counted on all environmental impacts from production and use to recycling.

The researchers’ main aim was to check if fuel cell cars are truly greener than cars with the internal combustion engine.

– The answer is yes, but only under the condition that the hydrogen gas that drives the fuel cell comes from renewable sources, says Empa researcher Dominic Notter to Springer für Professionals.

Hydrogen from natural gas emits virtually no environmental benefits compared to an efficient internal combustion engine and hydrogen electrolyzed with electricity from the European network makes the fuel cell vehicle to an even worse option.

Although battery cars recharged from the European network is in his lifetime environmentally worse than a needle petrol, say the researchers. Battery cars are, however, thanks to higher efficiency remains environmentally better than the fuel cell vehicle.

– This relationship changed totally on society generates its electricity from the sun , wind and water. Then the fuel cell car competitive in that it uses less energy to produce, says Dominic Notter.

The researchers in this study used three vehicles (a fuel cell, a battery car and a gasoline-powered car) with power 55kW.

Petrol car showed a consumption of 0.61 l / mil. After 15,000 kilometers of driving, and taking into account the environmental impact of manufacturing and recycling, so gave the car battery when charged with Europael, an environmental impact equivalent to 0.64 l / mil and fuel cell vehicle corresponding to 1.21 l / mil.

Nuclear power’s future will be decided not in Japan “- New Technology

Police and security guards lined up in front of the main entrance to the nuclear power plant Sendai 1 when restarted. Photo: Hiroko Harima / Kyodo News via AP / TT

The restart of Japanese nuclear power plant Sendai 1 welcomed by the nuclear industry. But that is not what determines the future of nuclear power, says Tomas Kåberger.

– If you now successful launch of a larger number of reactors in Japan without major problems gives a good rating to the Japanese nuclear industry, they manage to keep the reactors in good condition while the mothballed. But for the future of nuclear power internationally, it has no meaning. It will depend on how the new reactor builds, for example, the United States and China are performing financially, in relation to other energy technologies. Should it however happen further any incident or accident with the Japanese nuclear power would have a major negative impact, says Tomas Kåberger, professor, member of the Japan Renewable Energy Fund and former Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency.

Kärnkraftbranschens international lobby organization World Nuclear Association sees, however, the Japanese re-start as very important for the future of nuclear power:

– It’s about to regain people’s trust. The Japanese people need to see that the reactors operate efficiently and reliably, says Agneta Rising, Director General of the World Nuclear Association said in a statement. She also states that Japan, with 43 reactors are a vital part of the global industry and that the stop in Japan has also been felt by other members.

The background is that all Japanese nuclear power plants gradually ceased operations after the accident in Fukushima 2011. The country has been heavily dependent on nuclear power for its energy supply because it lacks its own assets in energy commodity. After the stop, Japan has been importing expensive natural gas for electricity generation and also made big energy savings.

The government recently decided that nuclear power plants would be restarted if they passed new, stricter safety requirements, despite a strong public protest. According to Tomas Kåberger is the government’s decision on fear of economic chaos:

– Each of the eight regions in the country have an energy company monopoly. Between regions is no common power exchange or replacement. The reactors are very highly valued assets in energy companies. Added the down forced the companies to write down their assets and perhaps fail. This would also banks dragged into the case and the risk does not dare the government to take.

Self-participating Tomas Kåberger in efforts to develop renewable Energy in Japan:

– The country has large own natural resources for wind and solar power. All other energy is forced to import.
