Large Banks do bitcoin technology to default – Business Week

Nordea has joined a group of large banks that want to make the technology behind bitcoin to industry standards.

Nordea has joined the partner organization Distributed Ledger Group, DLG, who want to make the so-called block-chain technology to the industry standard. It is clear from a press release.

The goal is to, inter alia, to develop commercial applications for banks and financial companies, according to David Rutter whose startup R3 will lead cooperation.

Initially, there were nine banks participated in the cooperation, including Barclays and JP Morgan, but has since come to grow to 25 banks. Now part of Nordea together with others including Goldman Sachs, Citi and Deutsche Bank.

Block Chain can be seen as a decentralized ledger where all parties are involved and verifies all transactions that take place. Besides being used for the digital currency Bitcoin is more and more people become aware of the technology and believes that it can be used for all kinds of transactions.

The benefit of the block chain is that it does not require the party which verifies transactions. This means that transactions can be faster, cheaper and easier to implement in relation to today’s banking system.

Mats Andersson stands and beams in front of a gathering of European motoring journalists . He is one of Volvo’s qualified engineers, PhD, who has worked 20 years with the company powertrains. The first ten years of internal combustion engines, for ten years with electric propulsion.

He is happy that Volvo now decided to go electric with plug-in hybrids in all new models and an electric car 2019th

– At last, he says.

Vi are in a pavilion well inside Volvo’s gates on Hisingen. Engine journalists are suspicious. They ask about Volvo suddenly begun with electricity by diesel scandal at VW.

Mats Andersson assert that it is not the case.

– We have been working on electric cars for 40 years, he says, pointing at an orange prototype car in 1976 and it is located in the premises.

Then he talks about the Volvo C30 Electric, which was certainly too expensive to be sold, but leased and provided important experience.

– What has prevented us so far is the cost of batteries. But now the price drops. Meanwhile, the energy density of batteries has increased, and the charging infrastructure is built.

– Acceptance among customers is also higher, people like to run on electricity. Now we can talk about this in business terms.

Mats Andersson emphasizes what he says with curves and arrows. Volvo has concluded that it can make money on electricity. Definitely on plug-in hybrids and four years on a pure electric car. Otherwise the company can not afford.

– We can not have quotas cars like some other companies to compensate for the higher emissions in other models. We may not like Toyota subsidize a new technology for some time to give it a foothold in the market. Volvo has simply not that kind of financial muscle, he said.

It is only when new technologies are asking how much Volvo’s electric cars and hybrids to cost, compared to vehicles with combustion engines, as Mats Andersson and his colleagues begin to prevaricate.

First they ask to come back. Since we know that it is difficult to figure out, and by the way, nothing that the company communicates.

The County Council was aware of the feeble beams of the escalator – New Technology

Within traffic management leadership is an attitude of continuous traffic is the most important. It is pointed out as a cause of the known problems with escalators was remedied before the accident. Photo: Sanna Percivall

The beams of the escalator, could not tolerate large enough load which caused the accident in which a woman was pinned in February. But the incident could have been prevented. Eight days earlier, a consultant warned stair type.

An escalator at the station Östermalmstorg opened as a trap door on February 14 this year. The woman who had just stepped on fell and pinned.

The escalator, which was manufactured by Asea in the 1960s, was equipped with two safety systems. Yet it stopped not until a passerby pushed the emergency button.

Emergency services worked for a long time to dislodge the woman, who risked losing his leg. Since then, she has undergone several operations.

New technology has taken note of two consultant reports on the accident that the County Council’s traffic management ordered. The company Dekra has conducted a technical investigation of the accident, while Inter Fleet has studied the organization and procedures. Both investigations show that the accident could have been prevented.

Read more: design flaws even in new escalator

Eight days before the accident, on February 6 had Dekra sounded the alarm about the particular type of escalator. The company had investigated another escalator of the same model at Östermalmstorg who had suffered repeated errors.

“The preliminary findings of serious concern to us then step leg (walking beam) breaks down quickly at a seemingly limited load. (…) We recommend that you as facility operator takes escalators with this design stages leg and / or materials from operation, “wrote Dekra.

Five days later, a meeting was held on traffic management. It was the last chance to prevent the accident, noting the Inter Fleet afterwards. Instead it was decided to keep the escalator continues to run, but with extra supervision. In the meeting notes recorded that Dekra was with the decision. In retrospect mean Dekra it never sued.

On 14 February, the accident occurred and the woman was pinned.

Deputy Head of the Traffic Department, Frederick Cavalli-Björkman, was one of the participants in the meeting.

– With hindsight we would of course have turned off. But we understood that it was not so serious. It is a mistake we have made, he said.

Can a consultant be clearer than writing that he is concerned about and recommend a shutdown?

– No, but after that we had the meeting when we discussed the matter. But it is clear that we have made a number of judgments that were not okay, says Fredrik Cavalli-Björkman.

Read more: Lack of cultural singled out as the cause

After the accident, Dekra commissioned to investigate what caused it. The result shows that the escalator had both in material and workmanship. The steps have various types of beams, and two of the types substandard.

A beam-type in the form of U-profiles were tested and approved in 2007 but according to Dekra quality deficiencies. Among other things, there are pores in the casting that weaken the structure.

Unfortunately it is with lattice beams. They are not tested by any standard and can withstand about half as much cargo as U-profiles.

Both beam types can rupture of the a traveler running or jumping on the ladder. The material is brittle and flaws therefore quickly without deformation, which is very risky in an escalator.

The direct cause of the accident is under Dekra to a beam burst about 15 steps below the accident stage. It is likely that it goes down, when someone jumped or ran down the stairs.

– It is sufficient that any sufficiently large adult stomps to the hard right on this model, says Bernt Åke Johansson, accident investigators at Dekra.

Crime and accidents in older Asea escalators have been common. Peter Andersson, DEKRA mission leader, considers that the problems should have been caught and corrected before.

After the accident, traffic management put in extra beams and wheel sensors in steps of 39 old Asea stairs. Thereby the steps are not able to open like a trapdoor.

The idea for this article came from Ny Teknik’s anonymous tip service Techleaks.

A missing after house fire – Skovde News

A man and a woman, both residents of the property during the Sunday night fire started for unknown reasons, alerted the SOS. It was just before 02 o’clock the alarm reached the monitoring station when the information about the fire would have started on the top floor of the house.

– The villa was fully in flames when we arrived at the scene, says Christer Olofsson of rescue operations in emergency preparedness.

Around 20 persons have been part of the rescue effort, forces from Tidaholm, Falkirk and Blikstorp was in place. Fighting continued throughout the night, during the Monday morning escalated forces down. Efforts by extinguishing lasted throughout the morning.

As the villa was in flames when emergency services arrived at the scene so the work was focused to stop spreading by sparks, and exterior fire fighting.

– The neighbors have also received water their roofs if the sparks have turned over, says Olofsson.

The man in the house suffered burns and was taken to hospital, but the woman is still being sought.

– She may have become confused and walk around outdoors, but she has not been found yet. We can not exclude that she come out, says Olofsson.

Fire place is still blocked.

– We have not been able to go into the house yet, but police technicians will do it in the afternoon or in the morning. We do know that both of them were awake when the fire broke out, said Olofsson Monday.

Peter Adlersson, police spokesman at the LKC in Gothenburg, confirmed at 09 o’clock on Monday morning that the dog patrol work and by increases in the woman had ended. A notification of arson has been established that the police should be able to enter and search the house and find it cool.

– Probably she has been left behind, says Adlersson.

The police make a new technical examination by the Crown – Gothenburg Post

The police’s technical investigation after the school attack in Trollhattan is nearly finished – but a new technical examination is carried out.

– We’ll discuss that matter at a management meeting today, says police commissioner Thord Haraldsson.

The barriers will be lifted in the coming days.

Sunday was torchlight , speech and minute of silence in Trollhättan to honor the victims of the attack on the school, the Crown in Trollhättan. Several thousand people attended the rally. Outside the school there are still traces of that fateful Thursday morning.

The police’s technical investigation is almost complete but the cordon tapes are still there. Inspector Thord Haraldsson stated that they will soon be removed.

– It remains a measure of the technical investigation. We’ll discuss that matter at a management meeting today. What I know so can the barricades be lifted within a few days, he said.

What is the measure that remains in the survey want Thord Haraldsson did not reveal.

On Monday, collected school personnel to more support. The staff is traumatized, according to school director Birgitta Lindstrom Sundfors in Trollhättan, writes TT.

– We will have a common moment of opportunity for talks and debriefing. Psychologists will be in place and hopefully even the police, she said.

At Crown works 80 people. This week is the autumn holidays and school activities, taking a break. Pre-school and leisure activities is planned to continue as normal, with some exceptions. The recreational usually found on the crown will be operated at a different place in the week, said Peter Asp, Communications in Trollhättan city, said.

Ronny, 40 new ICA card, switch out my bus pass – Aftonbladet

Ronny Eriksson, 40, has never had to remove the bus card from the wallet to go through the locks.

But the new card technology that ICA Bank is the first to use knock out SL card.

– I want my old cards, this does not work, says Ronny Eriksson.

Ronny Eriksson, 40, problems in the Stockholm public transport started a few days ago. Suddenly did not work his SL Access Card when he would sign the card on the bus.

– It beeped and flashed red, says Ronny Eriksson.

When the problems continued, he began to ponder what could be wrong. Most recently, he received a new card from ICA Bank, a card that uses the new contactless technology NFC. The technique entails paying by just swiping the card over the terminal.

No problem earlier

He had to test if the problem was there.

– I la Ica card at the SL card, but something in between. When it did not work, says Ronny Eriksson.

– But when I tested with just the SL card it worked right away.

Before he got the new card was never a problem to add full wallet to the card reader, which Ronny would like to do.

He is accustomed to not having to pick up the card from the wallet each time he will sign it.

Recently, he held on to miss the subway.

– I have chosen to have a small purse of just fit what I need. I travel a lot by bus and subway to work and it’s a pain to have to take up the card every time, says Ronny Eriksson.

Now he wishes he had been able to choose to receive retaining the old card. He has contacted Ica Bank to get a card with the old technique again.

– This is not working, says Ronny Eriksson.

– I think it is bad to Ica obviously have not tested this.

“Not heard of the problem”

ICA’s press office has not heard of problems in the past but after contact with Ica Bank gives to Ronny right:

“It depends on two cards with NFC technology turns out to each other if they are in the same wallet or the like because the receiving terminal does not know which card it will be read. One must therefore take out the card you want to use the wallet if you have more cards with this technology. This applies to all cards with NFC technology and is therefore not specific to the ICA board, “writes Emelie Ericson, press officer for ICA AB, in an email.

ICA Bank is the first Swedish bank to introduce contactless bank cards , according to a press release from last year.

SL are not aware that the new contactless cards will be a problem for travelers.

– There is new for us that these cards would disturb each other, and why it is so I can not speculate right now, says Thomas Silvander on SL’s press office.

According to Ulla Brehm, press spokesman at the police region West, there is no evidence to suggest that the man should have left a letter behind.

What can you say about the subject?

– Our task is To find out why this has happened, the culprit has certainly had its motive. There is no reason to speculate too early, but we do not exclude that there might be a hate crime, said Brehm.

On Thursday, police have conducted nearly 60 interviews and late night went on the technical investigation still.

Scania cleans the gas purification – New Technology

A cylinder in what will become Scania’s next generation of engines tested in the lab. Photo: Jörgen Appelgren

The new generation super clean diesel engines are much simpler, cheaper and more fuel efficient. They also have a higher efficiency.

In a sample cell in Scania to Ny Teknik see the tests of combustion chamber in the next generation of engines. A single cylinder is connected to a series of measuring instruments. Will the test results good testing the new combustion chamber in a six-cylinder engine.

– How does it look, says development engineer Håkan Sarby and draw in Ny Teknik’s notebook. This engine we build without compromise. We have 46 percent efficiency and can handle all the treatment requirements of the Euro 6 by far.

What happened? I thought you had to put on one purification technique after another to satisfy the requirements, and that it made engine tougher and thirstier.

– That we thought too, until a few years ago. But there has been a technological leap in post-processing. Our SCR catalytic converter can handle 98 percent purification, from the previous 80 percent. This means that we can do without EGR and with almost halved injection pressure compared to the previous engine generation, says Håkan Sarby, which works to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Behind these acronyms and concepts are different methods to reduce emissions of toxic nitrogen oxides (NO x ) and particles from a diesel engine. EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is about bringing back the exhaust gases to the combustion chamber to lower the combustion temperature and prevent the formation of NO x . Extremely high injection pressures, typically 2400 bar, is used to reduce the appearance of particles in combustion. These methods counteract each other, and also stands in contrast to the low consumption and high efficiency.

Scania and other manufacturers fought long to Balancing these methods and complement with a particulate filter.

– We had all the time to compromise. More EGR produces less NO x but more particles and less effect. Higher fuel pressure produces smaller particles but more NO x . We passed the Euro 3, 4 and 5, but the development costs rose constantly. As recently as 2010-2011, it was unclear if any manufacturer would be able to take the next purification steps yourself, says Per Johansson, Supervisor for those who work with legal requirements at Scania.

The answer was in the form of SCR, Selective Catalytic Reduction, a technique that removes NO x in the exhaust gases by adding urea. The ammonia in the urea combines with NO x of a catalyst to form nitrogen and water. The technology is known since long, but Scania had been against it, partly because it required an extra tank of the car for urea (or Ad Blue, which is also called).

– Our slogans were” just add diesel “. It kept the Euro 5 standard, says Per Johansson.

Now forced Scania supplement with SCR to meet Euro 6. The engineers built up the SCR -katalysatorn with particulate filter and an oxidation catalyst and squeezed it all in the trucks silencers, a jar of 60 cm square (slightly smaller than an ordinary washing machine). The first version was presented in 2011 and took away 80 per cent of NO x . The particulate filter removed 99.9 percent of all particles. But the developers did not stop there.

– catalysts was much better. At the same time we worked really hard on improving the technology to vaporize the urea into the exhaust gases, says Håkan Sarby.

It took five years. Since the purification of NO x reside in 98 percent, and after reading so good that EGR and extreme injection pressure is not needed in the future. The engineers can concentrate on making the engine itself as efficient as possible. The last combustion chamber is the best so far.

But it is not clear then? To arrive at the best possible and then uses all this?

– You’d think so. But so far we have always managed to improve a little to says Håkan Sarby.

Analysts Volvo IT deal: “I’m not surprised” – New Technology

Volvo IT costs over 1 billion for HCL. Photo: Lars Kajes

The Indian IT services company HCL Technologies buys Volvo IT. All the details of the deal will be fully completed during the second quarter in 2016.

(The article is updated)

The actual purchase price the external part of Volvo IT’s 1.1 billion. To the value of the running for Volvo’s infrastructure, a sum Volvo does not want to comment.

2 600 people at Volvo of which 800 are consultants involved and will be offered to change employers.

Speculation that Volvo should sell Volvo IT has been going on for many years, but has intensified over the past year in connection with the large savings program of SEK 10 billion Volvo has gone out with.

Pressen has also been great from the owner to sell the IT business.

– I do not believe that Volvo is the most efficient provider of IT services. There are examples of activities that complicate focusing on core business, said the major shareholder Cevian Capital’s manager Christer Gardell Dagens Industri in January last year.

After a thorough investigation has also Volvo has concluded that the operations belonging to the brand Volvo IT is not part of the Group’s core.

– Now we can work more cost-effectively and concentrate on our own processes. The IT activities related to the core business, we maintain, says Karin Wik, communications manager at the Volvo Group.

Only last week wrote Computer Sweden that IBM and HCL would make up for the final battle.

– We have never commented on what we have negotiated with, says Karin Wik who neither want to confirm or deny that IBM has been involved in the bidding war.

HCL is today a relatively small company in Sweden , however, large international with a turnover of 6.1 billion dollars. Johan Hallberg, IDC has previously been in talks with Digital Technology speculated that an Indian candidate would be likely. He mainly talked about Tech Mahindra and TCS (Tata).

Tech Mahindra has in the past year also hired several hundred people in Gothenburg in his office in Volvo’s industrial Torslanda. The company has a global agreement with Volvo Cars of IT infrastructure and services.

– Volvo Cars is one of Volvo IT’s largest customers. Both Tata and Tech Mahindra has more activity around cars, so they should have been in the final stages, says Johan Hallberg.

– I is still far from surprised that it was precisely HCL who took the deal. They have long been on the market and worked with large industrial customers in the Nordic region. I am thinking particularly of business in Norway and Husqvarna.

Of the Indian consultants are Tata / TCS more known in Sweden. They peaked as late as last spring, the annual major customer satisfaction survey among outsourcing clients from White Lane and PA Consulting Group. A leading IT consulting company in Sweden, according to IDC’s compilation of last year Canadian CGI (the Swedish base in the old WM-data) with 10.5 percent of the market. IBM has second place at 7.7%. HCL is not even in the top 20, however, Volvo IT in place 11th

– Now I would think that HCL will to get in somewhere between position seven and nine, says Johan Hallberg.

The picture is that HCL is now attacking the Swedish market aggressively with risk taking. Several of the other companies seen as more cautious and several have also had problems with the high turnover of chief page.

Volvo IT has a number major customers, including the City of Stockholm, Volvo Cars, SCA, Assa Abloy, Ica and SJ. The unit, which until 2012 was managed as a separate company, employs around 8000 people including consultants and has a turnover of many billions. Approximately one-third leave, Volvo in connection with the deal.

The real jewel in this context is considered to be the infrastructure part of Volvo AB, HCL will now commissioned to run it for Volvo.

You can always use a smaller motor “- New Technology

Engine Development Engineer Hakan Sarby explains the technical challenges that Scania has been resolved.

Truck manufacturer Scania expects to build efficient and strong environmental diesels that meet environmental requirements only with finishing in the form of SCR and particulate filter.

What’s the catch with the technology?

– There are two. One is that you have to have an extra tank of the car and stock up on extra fuel. That’s almost a comfort issue. The technical snag is that the system must have an exhaust temperature of over 250 ° C to function. This applies to both the urea catalyst, oxidation catalyst and particle filter, says Håkan Sarby working to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Thus, the SCR the catalyst combines nitrogen oxides and ammonia into nitrogen and water. In the particulate filter trapped particles. But what makes the oxidation?

– It increases the proportion of nitrogen dioxide in the NO x as it becomes equal to that of nitric oxide. It is the ratio that allows the SCR catalyst works best. Some of nitrogen dioxide also reacts with the carbon particles in the particle filter and clean it to carbon dioxide and nitrogen.

What if the engine is cold?

– The evaporation of urea does not work well and the treatment is inferior. The particle filter are not cleaned properly, without clogging. For a truck, it is not such a big problem, because the engine temperature rises fairly quickly when driving with a heavy load. It is worse for city buses and passenger cars.

How can I quickly get up the temperature?

– There are different techniques for this, but in common is that the cost of fuel. One way is to increase the engine load by applying an exhaust brake, thus clog the exhaust. Then, the motor must fight against a resistance and becomes hot. Another way is to make an after injection of fuel that is not ignited but goes out with the exhaust gases. The oxidation catalyst captures the hydrocarbons and they react to carbon dioxide and water while developing heat.

Does it work there for everyone, including passenger cars?

– It depends on what technology you have, what type of filter and catalyst . For us, it works.

Is there any other way?

– You can always use a smaller engine. Then it may work more, the temperature goes up and purification works.

Then ask Ny Teknik how big a passenger car diesel optimized purification would be. Issues of diesel cars is too delicate for Scania after VW scandal. But if we assume that a 12-liter diesel is suitable for pulling 40 tons as clean as possible will be a 0.5-liter diesel that does the same job for an average-sized passenger car.

Erik Johansson of Öland smartest home – New Technology

The winner of Ny Teknik contest Sweden’s smartest home is Erik Johansson on Öland. On Wednesday afternoon, he received the price of Elmässan in Kista.

A happy Erik Johansson was congratulated by New Technique-chief Susanna Baltscheffsky on the main stage at Elmässan in Kista.

Erik Johansson’s many proprietary solutions have to impress the jury. They justify the victory that he “turned an old house into a smart home where technology is integrated in a cost effective and inventive way.”

– Very funny! It shows that I’m on the right track. Although most are very interested, there is the occasional idiot who explained me, says Erik Johansson

He works as a lift technician and has worked with its smart home systems at play since the family with a wife and two daughters bought the house five years ago.

Huset controlled with an app that Erik Johansson made. To make it easy to use display housing the different floors in a 3D model. Then just click on a room and put on such lighting or music.

The app also the status of the floor heating and temperatures in the room, in the refrigerator and freezer. Erik Johansson can see where in the program the washing machine and dryer are, and request a text message when they have gone clear. Even the locks to the front doors can be controlled using the app. Handy if he sits in the car and wondering if he locked the door.

The house can also be monitored and controlled from several large touchscreens. One sits in the hall immediately as you enter the house. Each room also sits control panels and keypads Erik Johansson has built itself to fit in the house which is from 1890. Ir-detectors both inside and out keeps track of whether someone is nearby and controls the lights.

Although smoke alarms are connected. Then the alarm will know Erik Johansson directly into any room. At the same time all the lights throughout the house, the screens lit up, and there is even the family to gather.

The victory means, except honor, a gift voucher of 10 000 of the ELFA and that over a two year period to be “hemtestare” of IKEA’s products for the smart home.

Read a longer article about Erik Johansson’s smart house in the next number of new technologies that will expire on 21 October.

Facts Jury appointed the winner

The jury that appointed the winner in Ny Teknik’s contest ” Sweden’s smartest home “consists of:

Bear Blocks, Category Manager IKEA smart home and lighting

Henry Janzén, acting president ELFA Sweden

Karl Emil Nikka, technology training manager, Kjell & amp; Company

Susanna Baltscheffsky, editor of New Technology

The jury said:

” Erik Johansson has turned an old house into a smart home where technology is integrated in a cost effective and inventive way. It is a complete and coherent solution where the user is in focus. Well thought out technology choices have resulted in a self-governing system to a reasonable cost. “

Facts Some of Erik Johansson’s smart home solutions

The control system consists of a Beckhoff PLC.

The heating is with a geothermal heat pump. The heat is taken from a storage tank. In every room there is a temperature sensor that controls the hydronic floor heating individually in each room.

Magnetic sensors on all windows. If you open a window so lowered while the preset target temperature in the room so no heat rushes.

Elen monitored of system that sends an alert by SMS if one phase is missing or if any of the five GFCI breakers tripped. Electricity consumption of all appliances, a total of 34 meters, measured and logged. This means that it is possible to see the consumption and cost of individual devices.

The control system reads the current status from the washing machine and dryer, and send text messages when the program is gone of course.

Wireless fire detection system that identifies the smoke alarms alerts, send text messages while all lights on throughout the house.

Monitoring the temperature in fridge freezer. They report their temperatures in real time to the system and sends alerts via SMS if it gets too hot.

Motor lock the outer doors linked to the control computer. Access control with RFID, code lock or mobile.

The doorbell triggers a synthetic voice in the house who speaks about who like coming home. All lighting inside and there are controllable. Sitting IR sensors in all rooms which makes it possible to make the desired presets. Example: IR sensors dims the light in the room where no people in 30 minutes. Or. Go somewhere into the kitchen then be a certain lamp light up and stay lit for 30 seconds. In order to blend in in the environment, Erik has made its own switch for each room. The top button lights ceiling light, the other window lights, with a third button controls all controlled sockets and a fourth quench it all the lights in the room. The system remembers last setting so when you light again so have all the lights dimmer same attitude as before.

temperature and lighting in different colors around the pool can be steered. Proprietary app for both Apple and Android for control and monitoring of heating, lighting, audio, latches etc. To make it easy for the user interface is a 3D model of the house. Also three flush-mounted touch screens where the house can be controlled and it is possible to generate data on, for example, the power consumption of different appliances. Custom-made control panels based on the Arduino in every room with built-in IR detector that notices if someone stands in front of the panel. The panel displays the temperature in the room should be set-temperature and power go-around on the floor heating in real time.

Custom Made multirumförstärkare with 32 channels. Each room listen to what they want to play from the phone or listening to the TV. Controlled by the application or control panel. Hidden speakers in the bathroom, for example. Concealed cabling in the floor and walls.

Other smart “analog” features laundry chute from the 3rd floor and chutes for returnable cans from the kitchen.
