The elevated radiation in Helsinki came from the Finnish Radiation Safety Authority’s own garage, the study shows.
Finland’s radiation safety Stuk announces that cesium radiation is no longer higher than usual, said Huvudstadsbladet.
At the beginning of last week, the levels of radioactive cesium-137 in the air in Helsinki on the same level as in the context of the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl in 1986.
the source has been traced to the authority’s own garage and basement areas. The spaces have been blocked off.
– Our view is that the cesium recorded by the sensor on the roof is derived from this property. We have not yet found the broken source, says Tarja K Ikäheimonen on Stuk to the Finnish news agency STT.
In the same building as the authority’s office is also a company that handles radioactive småavfall.
