IOS 7: Most apps need to be upgraded - Mobile

As many as 52 percent of all iOS apps need to be updated by the developers for them to work in the new Apple Ios7 when released. That’s according to a new study, Craig Hockenberry, creator of Twitter client Twitterific, conducted among nearly 800 developers. Furthermore, the study estimates that 95 percent of developers plan to update their iOS 6 apps to iOS 7.

In this context it is worth noting that iOS 7 will not support all previous Apple models, in particular the iPhone 3GS, first generation of iPad and fourth-generation iPod Touch. In practice this means that users of these devices can continue to use apps that support previous iOS versions, but can not get access to IOS 7 updates. Apps which however, are specifically developed for iOS 7 will not work.

Marco Arment, creator of Instapaper, writes on his blog that although existing apps will work in iOS 7, so could these look and feel outdated out. This is because iOS 7 is not just about a new look for Apple’s mobile OS, but on new standards for navigation and structure. Arment predicts a bright future for new apps specifically developed for iOS 7 and believe that these can stand alone as challengers to the existing leading apps.
