What would Saudi Arabia with X-ray flashes to? – New Technology

EDITORIAL. Technology that can be used in the development of nuclear weapons were among the equipment that Sweden wanted to export to Saudi arms factory in 2009. It reveals New Technology this week.

Det case of X-ray bursts and hetisostatpressar, as available for civilian use but also for weapons. Exports of so-called dual-use items must be examined by the ISP, the ISP.

But the ISP never treated an application from FOI the front company SSTI, to export the equipment. Instead pulled SSTI withdrew his application. The reason for the ISP and SSTI different opinions about, shows the interviews freelance journalist Fredrik Lundberg has done for New Technology.

As far as known attracted the attention of either the Swedish government, the Riksdag or other EU countries on nuclear-related technology demanded by Saudi Arabia. If the application had instead been approved or rejected, there are rules on how the information should be passed on.

When SSTI made a new application at ISP 2010, there were these products are no longer with.

How the recipient had intended to use hetisostatpressarna and X-ray bursts is not clear. Saudi has no known nuclear weapons program.

The agreement on military cooperation with Saudi Arabia was obviously very important, both for the present and previous governments. It is reasonable to assume that the relevant ministers would have liked to know that the contractual partner on the other side of the table showed interest in instruments that can be used in the development of nuclear weapons.

Possibly the information has been put forward, but there is nothing that has emerged in the work of Ny Teknik article.

The debate on agreement with Saudi Arabia have been messy. Probably because it’s hard to defend a military cooperation with a country that has such great failures of democracy and human rights.

The arguments of those who wanted to extend the contract should have been consulted more. For example, the problems of a military trade agreements means have been discussed more. Such a problem can be Saudi Arabia’s potential interest in a nuclear weapons program.
