New consoles, old games and Microsoft hat - Aftonbladet

class=”abCity”> LOS ANGELES. Two new consoles.

More new games as we can count.

And almost as many old ones.

Here are the ten most significant trends at this year’s E3 event in Los Angeles.

Always online

You do not even look at Microsoft’s remarkable online requirements to realize that large parts of the game world is about to emigrate to the cloud. Sony will let us stream the Playstation games next year. Ubisoft and Activision launches lavish, new persistent online worlds in the form of “The Division” and “Destiny”. While doing “free to play” its foray on consoles thanks to the Xbox 360 version of “World of Tanks”.

Perhaps Microsoft is on to something, after all: with all these games in probably the question is why you would ever want to disconnect again.

Swedish game

We forgive you if your brain stopped working after the somewhat startling “The Division” demonstration at the Ubisoft press conference. But those who kept their eyes open for the rest of E3 discovered a stronger lineup of Swedish blockbusters than ever before: “Battlefield 4″. “Mirror’s Edge 2.” “Wolfenstein: The new orders.” “Need for Speed: Rivals”. “Mad Max”. “Brothers: A tale of two sons.” “Minecraft: Xbox One edition”.

“It feels good to be Swedish at E3,” said Josef Fares when we met him in the Microsoft booth. We can attest that he was right.

Scandals

It was as if Microsoft posted an FAQ for how to turn the players into their enemies even before E3 began. Then they wrote a hard hitting appendix when they announced that the Xbox One will be sold throughout the 499 euros when it is released in Europe.

All Sony had to do was the opposite. And it was exactly what they did. Playstation press conference before E3 was a string of long-awaited promises to the fans: no, Playstation 4 will not limit our right to sell and buy used games. No, we will not have to link up once a day just to play singleplayer. And by the way the console will only cost 399 euros.

But after the press conference tasteless rape allusions Microsoft can at least console themselves with their game world misogyner on their side.

Racing

According to “Need for Speed: Rivals” producer Marcus Nilsson is car racing rare practical to launch alongside new consoles, because they get a very clear boost from the improved performance. We’re not entirely sure that it is visible in all the new generation racing game. But while “MotorStorm” Developers Evolution “Drive Club” is both conceptually fuzzy and visually during overwhelming, it’s hard to imagine that the ‘Forza 5 “and just” Need for Speed: Rivals “will not disappoint. And when Sony get ready to roll out “Gran turismo 6″, the entire game world forget about the next-gen consoles for a while – at least until the Playstation 4 version of the same game is finished.

Tomorrow consoles

Anyone who says that this year’s E3 was the most exciting thing in eight years? Listen to them. It is so long since Sony and Microsoft later showed new home consoles at the show. And even if we were not so broken by the next generation graphics that we liked, so it can not be denied that the E3 was a completely different charge of the industry’s biggest paradigm shifts ever waiting just beyond the horizon.

Today’s consoles

graves are already dug. But the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 does not seem like it’s about to put his bearings in them just yet. This despite the fact that they already had nearly eight years in the spotlight – considerably longer than the Playstation 2, Xbox and Gamecube unnades. With “Beyond: Two Souls” and “Gran turismo 6″ Sony looks to have two of its most ambitious Playstation 3 games ever again. At the same time the Xbox 360 suck up the money we are saving for Xbox One with yet another scorching Summer of Arcade. And we have not even mentioned the creative crescendo – “Bayonetta 2,” “Pikmin 3″, “Super Mario 3D World,” “Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze” – which is about to do Wii U console to a counting with again.

Yesterday’s game

“Killer Instinct,” “Crimson Dragon”, “Zelda: Wind waker HD”, “Thief”. Apparently not enough all pure new investments to cover the need for titles to future consoles. We could complain about publishers imagination when they dig up old treasures again – if it were not for just “Killer Instinct,” “Crimson Dragon”, “Zelda: Wind waker HD” and “Thief” was four of the best games we got to try at E3.

Eccentric Nintendo

a private corner of the exhibition made Nintendo what they are doing at any time and best: shut their eyes to all the current trends and focused on the game with features no one else had been able – or willing – to get on. When the rest of the gaming world getting irritated over next-generation graphics and massive online worlds like Nintendo that it’s a good idea to demonstrate a game in which Mario can dress up as a cat. Having auditioned “Super Mario 3D world” we are not entirely confident that they are wrong.

New initiatives

“Drive Club”, “watch dogs”, “Ryse,” “Destiny,” “The Division,” “Titan Fall”. Suddenly, we see an explosion of lavish new brands ready to exploit the computing power of Xbox One and Playstation 4. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says it is rewarding to launch new franchises with new consoles, as the players then are extra willing to invest in unsecured cards. The rest of the game world seems to agree with him.

Everything that could have been

We were hoping to get a glimpse of it in eons awaited “The Last Guardian” at this year’s E3. Instead, we received news that the developments have been put on hold – after six years. Despite what many interpreted as a tease for the fair – and we thought that the only obstacle so far has been the lack of new consoles – Ubisoft also refused to talk about “Beyond good & evil 2.” And where “Half-Life 3″ is? Not on E3′s exhibition floor, anyway.
