IT giants are trying to clear his name - Gothenburg Post

Nine IT giants have provided information to the NSA, which is responsible for the U.S. government’s top-secret surveillance program Prism. Facebook and Microsoft now reveals in part the scope of cooperation.

In the second half of 2012, Facebook had between 9,000 and 10,000 requests for user data. It moved between 18,000 and 19,000 user accounts.

Distances itself

Microsoft claims to have received requests for “all kinds of information” about 31,000 customer accounts during the second half of 2012.

Yahoo complained

Of the nine relevant IT giants are known to only Yahoo who appealed an order to the equally secret FISA court. It struck in 2008 held that the order was not against the American constitution.

Microsoft was the first to share the information with the Prism program. The collaboration began in 2007. The following year, stooped even Yahoo regulatory requirements.

Twitter, which promoted itself as a strong advocate of freedom of expression and privacy are still outside Prism.
