U.S. scientists have for the first time made a battery with a 3-printers. The size is like a grain of sand.

a modified 3D printer, researchers at Harvard and the University of Illinois made a lithium-ion battery.

a head that prints 30 microns wide swaths spun out of lithium oxide in two opposing “chamber” which became the anode and cathode. Then, an electrolyte transforming the 3D written material to a battery.

According to a press release, the hair thin battery performance in terms of charging cycles and energy density corresponding to commercial lithium ion batteries.

hope is that the mini-batteries of this type can be the source of energy in such medical implants, and small robots.
