It is not only U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon who want to use unmanned vehicles in their operations. Even in Sweden, Applications to fly so-called drones has increased dramatically in recent years.

Spot Scale is a Linkoping-based company already uses drones, in their case to photograph buildings and create realistic 3D models of these.

– The most obvious use is for anyone who wants to build on or change something. Either by recreating some historical or build something new, says Ludwig Emgård, one of the company founders.

He has previously worked on developing 3D maps. But it was only in combination with the smaller helicopter like the drones that it became possible to create sufficiently realistic models on a smaller scale.

– It is a prerequisite for getting around and capture the building from all sides, it would have been impossible otherwise.

addition to individuals and architects who are looking for a model of a specific house, there are also other uses. The technology could be used for example in computer games development or in the film industry.

– We are in contact with some major studios in the U.S., which looks at using technology planning. By going on a shooting location, they can then plan where to put the cameras and how the recording should go to.

Spot Scale, however, is careful not to intrude on the private integrity. The drones will not be used to spy on people.

– We would never expose someone’s private affairs. We do not want to look back at the people. Then it’s not like we go around and scans in people’s gardens. It’ll either be an object of general interest or a place where someone ordered scanning, says Ludwig Emgård.
