Skellefteå. Skellefteå company believes in less traffic disruption and a better environment in the transportation of wind turbines on the train.
Skellefteå Company Railcare together with Siemens Wind Power completed the first successful test transport of tower parts wind turbines on the train. The parts were loaded in Nyborg, Denmark and the terminus was Långsele.
– We have said for years that this is possible and conducted dialogue with Siemens. Now finally we got prove we are a good development and the railroad is an option, says Hans Flodmark, Operations Manager for Railcare Logistics AB.
– It’s only fair that the wind power industry – environmental issues in focus – also are taking shipments of the equation, says Hans. Collaboration and smooth development
Mission is to be both a train operator and development partners. For this first test, they have developed their own adapters to securely attach the tower parts by rail wagons. After final approval from the client about which tower parts to be tested was the final design work and railway carriages were fitted in only three weeks!
We want to show that it is possible to be otherwise * and find new solutions in a relatively quick and easy way . It need not be troublesome to find a good dialogue with all parties contributing their respective expertise. In order to find a viable route for the transportation of even the turbine wings have also organized tripartite meetings with other actors.
– Our plan is to continue to develop this idea, and in the spring of 2014 additional testing, says Ulf Marklund, CEO of Rail Care Group AB.
For wind turbine wings are extra large profits to be made compared to transporting them by truck , particularly in terms of reducing interference to other traffic. Transport Administration has also stated that it wants to such movements that are longer than 20 mil should be avoided.
