Apple denies knowledge of software that the U.S. intelligence community NSA reportedly developed in order to take control of phones belonging to the Iphone.
Monday revealed the German magazine Der Spiegel leaked, classified documents about the software that will allow the NSA to retrieve any information from Apple’s smart phones: text, photos, contacts, voice messages and phone calls.
In a statement on New Year’s Eve Apple said that the company “never worked with NSA to create backdoors in any of our products, including the iPhone.” Publicly giant claims not to have known of “the alleged NSA program with our products that target” and stresses that takes its customers’ privacy and security very seriously.
The documents, which are dated to 2008, shows that NSA agents need access to the phone itself to install spyware on a Iphone. But there is also apparent that the development was going to be able to remotely install the software.
Apple’s first iPhone model was launched in 2007.
Apple CEO Tim Cook and senior executives from the likes of Google, Yahoo and Facebook met in December President Barack Obama to discuss the impact of U.S. surveillance, writes Politico.
