MP wants to give SJ monopoly on high-speed trains – New Technology

The Green Party wants the national railway company SJ to get exclusive rights to use the new high-speed tracks for trains on the Stockholm-Gothenburg and Stockholm-Malmö.

The exclusive right for fast trains shall be valid for 15 years, according to the proposal contained in the party’s new tågpolitik presented today, reports Swedish Television News.

The Green Party wants also prevent the state from making profit withdrawals from SJ to come because the railway company needs the money to buy new trains. Last year, the state took out a profit distribution from SJ 1.7 billion.

Karin Svensson Smith (MP), Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, explaining that the party’s proposals have not gained support from the government partner the Social Democrats.
