Microsoft integrates technology from Gothenburg in Windows 8.1. It could be a major breakthrough for Fingerprint Cards.
Sensors from Fingerprint Cards integrated into the next version of the operating system Windows 8. The user’s fingerprint can then be used to log on to Microsoft Accounts and manage online payments or other transactions.
– The biggest news in the company’s 16-year history, says Gothenburg Company president Johan Carlstrom.
FPC refers to a demonstration of the beta version of Windows 8.1 at TechEd North America 2013, which is a great fair for Microsoft developers.
presentation opens up a number of new innovative uses online FPC fingerprint technology, the company states, quoting Dustin Ingalls, Partner Group Program Manager for Windows Security & Identity at Microsoft:
– fingerprint-based biometric sensors will become an integral part of the experience for users of Windows 8.1. The biometric sensors provide enhanced security and is the best and easiest way to confirm the user’s identity.
According Dustin Ingalls has Fingerprint Cards a range of touch sensors that can be used to make biometrics as standard to authenticate the user in Windows-based devices.
Fingerprints CEO Johan Carlstrom do not want to speculate on what volumes it can lead to the company.
– The potential is huge because Microsoft is aiming to have fingerprints as the primary identification and verification as soon as possible, in all computers, tablets, smartphones, and game consoles that run Windows. Together, we will enable in 2014 and 2015.
He would not speculate on what it will mean in sales revenue:
– That I leave to the financial and industry analysts to do, our forecasts for 2014 later this year.
Will there be other sensors is the era of Windows 8.1?
– It’s not something we’ve talked about. We will help Microsoft to introduce biometric identification / verification. In the current situation is to my knowledge, only two manufacturers of capacitive fingerprint sensors and we are as well as a private American company called Validity Inc.
– What we do know, however, lacks a touch sensor at the moment, that Microsoft has stated that they prefer. We’ll see how the future unfolds.
Fingerprint Cards has about 30 employees in Gothenburg, a total of 40 in the company.
– Now we are growing by 15-20 people for the rest of the year in Gothenburg, Lund and locally in Asia and the U.S., where our major customers are.
