Wind Electricity from Sweden will run Google’s newly Finnish data center in Hamina in northern Finland. Google, like competitor Facebook chose to build was his great server facility in Scandinavia – Facebook in Luleå and Google in Hamina.
Reason is the cold climate that allows the cooling of the servers can be operated by air directly from the outside for much of the year and that in the Nordic countries are safe supply of renewable electricity.
Thanks to the agreement with Google has wind developer O2 secured financing of the new wind farm through a loan from the German insurance company Allianz.
Maervara project comprises 24 turbines with a capacity of 72 MW – 12 turbines in Pajala and 12 Övertorneå. When the wind farm is fully operational in 2015 Allianz takes over ownership.
