After Brazil’s purchase of 36 new Gripen of Saab Sweden can rent out Swedish Gripen aircraft to Brazil. An agreement is being negotiated.

Defence group Saab may sell 36 JAS 39 Gripen next generation to Brazil for close to 40 billion. Brazil buys 28 planes with room for a pilot (Gripen E), and 8-seater plane (Gripen F).

But even Swedish state contributes to the deal differently.

Back in April this year signed Sweden and Brazil a military cooperation agreement – which according to the Brazilian defense mini stone Celso Amorim- was important not least for its planned purchase of the Gripen system.

Among other traded contract for the Swedish Air Force would train Brazilian pilots of the Gripen system. But more training and system knowledge needed. According to previous rumors, will Brazil have decided not to hire any Swedish Gripen aircraft before getting their own planes delivered from 2019 onwards. (Final delivery is expected 2024th)

But the rumors are false, says Sofia Karlberg, head of communications at the National Defence and Security Export Agency.

– Sweden and Brazil are negotiating an interim solution, in which the goal is that we will be ready before the New Year, she said.

Enligt Sofia Karlberg has the intergovernmental negotiations got delayed a bit while the Saab deal was negotiated.

The plan that Brazil wants to rent the Air Force’s most modern Gripen fighters of the model C / D.

Sofia Karlberg want not state the number of planes that Brazil might hire of Sweden, but according to research firm Jane’s is about 6-12 pieces plan.

So This annotated Defense Minister Karin Enstrom the Swedish ability to offer Brazil a bridging solution in April of this year:

– Brazil has said it wants something before getting the next generation Gripen so that they can learn in the meantime. Then it becomes easier to make the transition to the new aircraft systems. There we have good experiences to teach other countries how to operate this system. We will look at how it should be here in the future and when it might start.

Flygvapenchefen Micael Bydén want in the current situation, however, does not comment on the Armed Forces opportunities to spare Swedish fighter jets to Brazil.

When Saab Gripen renewed its tender to Brazil in 2009 also promised the Swedish government to evaluate the KC-390 new transport aircraft.

KC-390 manufactured by Brazilian Embraer, one of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer. The first prototype of transport aircraft was rolled out of the factory the other day.

Embraer expects to play a leadership role in the Brazilian Gripen most of which will be built in Brazil.

As the Saab Gripen Business with Brazil is in port, Saab and Embraer now also come to collaborate on Sweden to offer a replacement for the aged Swedish Hercules Plan.
