Nature Conservation Group warns married in Christmas trees – New Technology

The German nature conservation organization Bund has found pesticides in half of the Christmas trees surveyed in the country.

The Bund is a German local environmental organization connected to the international Friends of the Earth. The association did test the presence of various pollutants in Christmas trees at an independent laboratory.

Fifteen trees were purchased at different locations in the country, for example in Berlin , Munich, Nuremberg, Leipzig and in some places in Bavaria. The spruces were bought at DIY stores and garden plants.

The analyzes showed that in seven of these trees contained needles traces of herbicides as glyphosate or Prosulfocarb, in one case were both in the same tree.

Tomas Brückmann, plant poison expert at the Bund, commented that glyphosate is suspected to cause cancer and may damage the fetus. Prosulfocarb is a neurotoxin.

– These herbicides are unnecessary in spruce plantations, comments Brückmann. The funds may have long-term adverse effects in the water.

He calls the Christmas tree buyers to ask the vendors from which the tree comes from and how it was grown.
