Wärtsilä acquires automation supplier – New Technology

The Finnish shipbuilding group Wärtsilä acquires automation and electrical systems supplier L3 in Hamburg with 1700 employees.

For EUR 285 million, Wärtsilä sets out to take over the L3 Marine Systems International, with headquarters in Hamburg. The company is now owned by L-3 Communications in New York.

Through a takeover, Wärtsilä will strengthen its position in the fields of automation and electrical systems when it comes to shipping.

L3 MSI employs 1,700 employees in 14 countries. Items in electronics and navigation systems, such as dynamic positioning technology and sonar technology, sold under different brands. The technique is mainly used for passenger and merchant ships.

The turnover is EUR 400 million.

Köpet must first be approved by the relevant authorities.
