Russian engine in Chinese 5th gen fighter – New Technology

A Russian jet engine originally developed for the MiG-29 to be used in the Chinese fighter aircraft J – 31, a fifth-generation military aircraft.

Chefen for Rosoboronexport air export department, Sergey Kornev, told the news service Ria Novosti that the Russian-built RD-93 engine will be used in the Chinese fifth-generation fighter J-31, which is so far only available in one copy.

The engine has a thrust of 98 kN and is a further development of the RD-33 engine originally developed for the aircraft Me -29. RD-93 was developed by company Klimov for the Pakistani Air Force JF-17.

Sergey Kornev spoke out in conjunction with the Chinese Air Show Zhuhai, and emphasized that the problems with China on several occasions may have copied Russian technology. The suspicion is on some aircraft models from Sukhoi, where the Russian side later seen similar Chinese aircraft types.

But Sergey Kornev referred to a agreements on copyright protection concluded in 2008, and that there are no issues regarding the military-technical cooperation between the countries which can not be solved.
