A new technology to make the veins in the crook of your arm visible now being tested at the Red Cross blood donation centers in Sydney, Australia. The hope is to spare hard stung donors.
The coarse needle used to give blood can become a pain for people where the veins in the crook of your arm is hard to find. Large bruises afterwards hardly increases motivation.
To facilitate the difficult stung people to give blood, the Red Cross in Australia started testing a technique where it shines on your elbow with light in the near infrared region. Oxygenated hemoglobin in the veins interacts with light and creates an image of the veins on the outer arm. Then, just for the nurse to focus on the vein that seems best.
The technology will now be tested on 900 blood donors. Faller test out well introduced method on all blood donor center by the Red Cross in Australia.
According to the science website Science Alert is the first time in the world technology tested on blood donors.
