The bag gets its judgment on Friday – New Technology

A maximum for the use of plastic bags, or a fee per bag. On Friday, the EU takes decisions to reduce use.

In the EU, we use 100 billion plastic bags year, more than 500 billion worldwide.

We Europeans are using the plastic bag on average for 20 minutes. Then it goes into the trash and go to incineration.

But not all. An estimated 8 billion bags end up in the environment or in the sea. During the long time it takes to break down the bag has time to do it great harm.

The European Commission wants down consumption from the average 200 bags per citizen per year to 90 in 2019 and 45 in 2025. On Friday, the Member States to decide whether they want to put specific limits on the use or whether to impose penalties on the bags from 2017.

When Ireland imposed penalties on plastic bags in 2002 decreased use 90 percent. Today, the consumption of 18 bags per Irishman. In Sweden, we use 111 bags of inhabitants, the average for the EU is 198. Bulgaria leads the league with 421 bags per inhabitant per year.
