Russia is building oceangoing Corvettes – New Technology

Russia’ll order two oceangoing small corvettes equipped with long-range missiles.

Russian Admiral Viktor Chirkov tells the news service RIA Novosti that MoD shortly going to order two oceangoing small corvettes.

corvettes have the same armament and equipment that the smaller missile ships in the fleet already have. But the new vessels will have a different specification when it comes to navigating the oceans.

Some detailed specifications did not mention Chirkov, but a corvette that Construction begins in April is Buyan-M project 21631 with displacement 900 tons and length 74 meters.

The armament consists of missiles to combat aircraft and other vessels. At the bow there is a 100 mm gun. Additional armament is anti-aircraft guns and machine guns.

These vessels are shallow and can put ashore troops near the beaches. Top speed is reported to be 25 knots.
