New documents on Hammarskjöld’s death – Aftonbladet

Was Dag Hammarskjold victim of a South African assassination plot backed by the CIA and MI5?

Documents that support the 18-year-old theory has recently found, writes Foreign Policy.

Shortly, UN chief Ban Ki-moon to request that the investigation be opened up again.

1998 published several documents that declared show how a paramilitary group in South Africa planned to kill UN chief Dag Hammarskjold.

Eight pages, some handwritten, reminiscent of a spy thriller.

Codenames Commodore and Captain describes how Hammarskjold be cleared out of the way – “Operation Celeste”.

“Our technicians have orders to place three kilograms of dynamite in the wheel housing (DC 6th gear) with contact detonator that is activated when the wheels retract after takeoff.”

CIA, MI5 and mining companies stood behind

the British security service MI5, US intelligence the CIA and the Belgian mining company Union Miniere was reported to be behind the plans.

the reason is said to have been the UN’s involvement in the mineral-rich Katanga province.

the authenticity of documents was questioned, however, by several experts. Bengt Rösiö, who investigated Hammarskjold’s death to the Ministry’s behalf, was interviewed by the Times in 1998 and was then convinced that it was counterfeit.

Now, says the magazine Foreign Policy that the South African government found new documents describing Operation Celeste.

Unlike from the 18-year-old letters said to be original documents.

the documents will now be analyzed by UN personnel.

According to Foreign Policy’s sources is expected to UN chief Ban Ki-moon shortly confirm new documents found, and request that the study on Hammarsköljd death will be opened up again.

the CIA commented information about Operation Celeste already 18 years ago.

– allegations that the CIA was behind are absurd and baseless, said the agency then.
