A passenger plane has crashed in Tehran.
Some 30 persons have been killed.
Early on Sunday, at 06:48 Swedish time, crashing a passenger plane from the airline Taban air associated with it took off from Mehrabad airport in the Iranian capital Tehran, writes AFP.
According to Iranian state television, a 30 people have died in the crash, several of which were children. First it was said that all on board had perished. But later reported news agency IRNA that a dozen of the 48 victims had survived and been taken to hospital, writes Reuters.
The aircraft from Taban Airlines was on its way to the town Tabas in eastern Iran when it claimed to have suffered an engine failure and crashed in a residential area.
It was the model of Iran-141, a smaller model built in Iran with Ukrainian technology. The plane was used according to the AP for domestic flights.
The plane must have crashed in a residential area west of the airport. Iranian state television reports the AP that the plane must have crashed into a residential building. There is currently no information on deaths or injuries on the ground.
