Swedish with the China-rocket – New Technology

Uppsala company Dirac’s technology is used by the world’s most haussade mobile phone companies, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi.

Xiaomi is still a relatively unknown company in Sweden. But the mobile newcomer has recently taken over the top spot from Samsung in smartphones market segment in China. It is now the world’s largest mobile market.

Xiaomi sells all their mobiles via the net – with great success.

The company received a lot of attention outside of China with the launch of the advanced low-cost model Red Rice.

Nu it turns out that there are Swedish technology in the high profile mobiles.

Mathias Johansson, Co-founder and Managing Director of the Uppsala company Dirac Research has been working with the company Xiaomi success in almost two years.

Dirac Research is a spin-off from Uppsala University and develops digital audio technology used in smart phones, cars, and speakers.

‘Our first mobile customers were Chinese Oppo, which also manufacturers of advanced mobiles. Our first contract with Xiaomi in March 2013, says Mathias Johansson.

Then Xiaomi had decided to replace Dolby’s audio solution with the Swedish .

-First bought Xiaomi our technology to the headphones, and then also for the speakers.

The Swedish solution is now available in several models of Xiaomis mobile and tablet MiPad.

-Our digitized sound system optimizes the sound based on a particular speaker, so the sound is as clean as possible. You could say that our product works as glasses, which corrects the speaker sound. So we have worked closely Xiaomis sound engineer, says Mathias Johansson.

assignment from Xiaomi are significant for Dirac, which last year had sales totaling 13 million.

Nowadays mobile customers standing for half of Dirac’s turnover. Besides Xiaomi sells to its technology to Chinese mobile manufacturers Oppto and Meizu.

And we are discussing with several Chinese manufacturers of high-end handsets.

There are many, but among the most noticeable BBK, Lenovo, Yulong, ZTE and Huawei.

Mathias Johansson is impressed by Xiaomi.

-Xiaomi have revolutionized the mobile world. The founders come from the internet world and has hijacked distribution. Some compare the company with Apple, but it is wrong. Xiaomi is both cool and have models with a low price. Also new is the way they involve their users in the development.
