From drawing to 3D printing - IDG.se

3d printers are very large and printers are becoming more affordable, making it possible for many more people to start experimenting with the technology. Nevertheless, it has so far centered on creating objects in advanced CAD or 3D applications, which are written out to physical objects, which requires quite a lot of users.

Class=”paragraphIntro”> That creators of the project Doodle3d change with its simple iPad app that turns ordinary “daub” – simple drawings – to 3d printing. The project is run by Rick Companje on Fablab Amersfoort, and beta versions of the app have been tested with children in a school.

All the user needs to do is draw in which drawing on iPad anytime. Since this can be printed out as a “flat” (extrapolated) object, or do more with it by rotating and sculpting it.

Besides an app has Doodle3d also developed a small dongle that connects 3d printer (of brands Ultimaker, MakerBot and Printrbot so far) and your iPad, iPhone or laptop over wifi.
