PTS: Nine out of ten have fast broadband 2020 - IT.Branschen

government’s goal is that 90 percent of all Swedes should have access to broadband with transmission speed of 100 megabits per second in 2020. Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, has a follow-up viewing of the target will be achieved. The conclusion is that the chances are good.
- But it requires the same commitment to development that exist today among the actors involved, says Bianca Gustafsson Kojo who worked on the investigation on the PTS.

Class=”paragraphIntro”> Today 53 percent of Swedes access to broadband at 100 megabits per second, mostly via fiber or cable network. PTS expects that fiber will be the key technology in the future. But even fast mobile connections will be important to achieve the goal. How important the mobile connections are may depend both on the technology and on which frequencies will be allocated to mobile broadband.

2012 invested 4.7 billion in fixed broadband infrastructure in PTS. To meet the goal of 90 percent coverage required investments of about 32 billion by 2020. To the willingness to invest will be required to maintain the high pressure from consumers who are willing to pay for fast connectivity.
– We see no evidence of a decline in demand with the information we have today, says Bianca Gustafsson Kojo.
