Crowding among Paperback apps on App Store - 99mac

When Facebook launched its app Paper the other day they were met with opposition from the manufacturer FiftyThree which already has a popular app with the same name. Now, even criticism from apptillverkaren Misoft, who also made a paper app.

Subscription app # Paper from the company # Fifythree has received much attention since its launch, including it was assigned to Apple’s award-winning design and been named this year’s iPad app. When # Facebook recently launched its own app to share events and photos were also given the name Paper, which FiftyThree expressed dissatisfaction with.

“An app that is all about stories should not start with someone else,” writes FiftyThree on his website. “Facebook should stop using our name.”

FiftyThree has not been alone in # App Store using the name Paper. The company # Misoft claim they were the first to register the name of one of their apps. According to information in the App Store launched Misoft Paper September 20, 2012, but FiftyThree released its first version earlier on March 14 the same year. On the app’s page in the App Store, type Misoft:

“We followed Apple’s rules and created the app Paper via our developer account. Identification awarded us because no one else used it. Meanwhile we developed our app came other apps called Paper”.

Misoft Paper has some similarities with FiftyThree when both apps are drawing or painting features. According to Apple’s guidelines, apps do not have too similar names then it can easily confuse customers. In practice, however, does not Apple have an effective system to prevent multiple apps have the same name. The open question is who in this case is presumed to have the right to the name of the App Store.
