Municipality Computers infected with viruses by criminal gangs - Aftonbladet

Hundreds of computers on the country’s municipalities and colleges risk leaking sensitive data.

Data are from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) which periodically checks the Internet traffic.

According authority has 379 computers on municipalities in the country and 269 associated universities and colleges infected between 31 October and 27 November, writes Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

Remote

infection is spread via infected files to be downloaded or electronic backdoors on websites and provides criminal operators to remotely control computers.

It allows sensitive data such as social services may leak or groupings the intrusions have access to research from Swedish universities, writes SvD.

– The problem is that the malicious code is becoming more and more sophisticated. Often it is about criminal networks eastward, in the former Soviet republics and China, says Jonas Thambert, cyber security advisor at MSB to SvD.
