Now take the eternal debate about a new Slussen soon into the digital world. The winning design will be built entirely of pixels, while the Stockholm gets a clone in “Minecraft”.
– There WILL NOT be very interesting to see just how Slussen developed. The problem might not Block Holm solve, but we could open for interesting questions, says Mats Karlsson, project on Architecture and design center.
Block Holm is the digital version, and antithesis, today’s Stockholm. In reality, limited urban planners and architects of laws and bureaucracy, but in Block Holm is the only limit is your imagination.
– In our game we deregulate the system, what will the Stockholm then? What happens if you take away all the house and start from scratch?
Anyone who wants to be part of creating Block Holm need to buy the Swedish game “Minecraft” which is the site of the new city’s emergence. Everyone gets a piece of land, based on today’s real estate division in Stockholm, and can then complete their own vision.
– What is fascinating is what it will be for the type of room. Will it recognize? Will there be an experience of Stockholm or a completely different experience, says Mats Karlsson.
First up is the Old Town, and beyond, the new districts will be released every Thursday. In March there will be a physical exhibition at the Architecture and design center, where about ten projects from Block Holm will be built in miniature.
– We are building a much smaller scale. A block is one times one meter in “Minecraft”, with us it will be 20 centimeters. It becomes like a play, says Mats Karlsson.
