Windows 8.1 released - start button are back - Array.se

Microsoft is a company that listens to its customers and gladly giving in to the crowd became clear in subsequent months since Xbox One presented. Several times they changed their original plans to meet customer demands and needs. The same applies delsvis for the widely criticized Windows 8, but the changes are not quite of the same caliber as many customers demand.

News in version 8.1 that have been tested for some months in a preview version are many, both large and small. Among other things, the search function is markedly improved, SkyDrive more integrated at the system level and the built-in apps updated with goodies. It is now also possible to choose to completely bypass the new home page in Windows 8 when booting the computer, and the support for multiple screens is significantly better.

Finally, now is also the highest missing start button back, in a sense. There is a start button like button in the bottom left corner, just like the Microsoft accustomed to for nearly 20 years, but unfortunately, it works just like in Windows 8: the starting grid.

It’s like I said a lot of new features in version 8.1, and it is overall a big update, but the feeling that you are working on two separate systems – the common desktop environment and grid “Metro” – remains. Although the 8.1 is more flexible to show applications from the two worlds simultaneously on the screen, in addition to the desktop can be the same in both environments, feels they still remain separate.

Hopefully, for Microsoft’s sake, will this update bring more daring to upgrade to Windows 8 from previous versions of Windows. Latest figures from Net Market Share show that they still are – a year after launch – is only around eight percent of Windows computers with an internet connection that rolls with Windows 8.

Existing Windows 8 installations can already update to Windows 8.1 through Windows Update. All new purchases and downloads of Windows 8 will from October 18 to be version 8.1.
