Doubled life elektornik can come true - New Technology

Gothenburg researchers shows that it is possible to reduce the temperature of the computers with the super-thin material graphene. It enables a new generation of electronics, especially for smaller units.

Researchers have successfully managed to do an experiment that enables electronic systems with more components, better performance and enhanced functionality.

research team included John Liu, Professor of Microtechnology and Nanoscience at Chalmers. Together with researchers from Gothenburg, Shanghai and Hong Kong, they show that it is possible to lower the temperature in computers and other electronics using graphene.

reported Swedish Radio.

It has previously been suggested that the thin material graphene consisting of a single layer of carbon atoms can be used to conduct heat away from the electronics. And the researchers have now been able to show, according to a study published in the journal Carbon.

John Liu stated that the method used as a basis for this study is relatively cheap. This allows usage of graphene make a significant contribution to the development of such electronics that previously limited by cooling.

– It is very important that the electronic system is sufficiently low working temperature. A rule of thumb says that if one increases by ten degrees so half life of electronic systems, says the professor, to SR.

– One can imagine that you can fit more components and increase functionality, so it increases the ability to continue to enhance the performance of electronic systems, but still able to keep the temperature in check, says Johan Liu.
