It was the middle of June as a soldier, an officer of the Armed Forces and part of the ISAF force in Afghanistan, forgot a machine gun on the roof of a truck.

man was the day takskytt and column head of a shipment that arrived at the German air base Camp Marmal in Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan.

The man picked up the ammo but forgot the machine gun in a stand on the truck roof. There, lying for hours. Swedish military police found the gun about five hours later.

Armed Forces is critical to man’s actions.

– We are obviously serious about this, it is something that must not happen. Here, human error caused the incident, said Patrik Gardesten, deputy head of the Swedish troops, to SvD.se on the phone from Afghanistan.

How did the gun not detected earlier?

– The unfortunate thing is that the gun remained on the roof of a vehicle, you can not see it from the land it stands on. But I want to emphasize that it is the individual’s responsibility to manage the personal equipment you have.

lot of people passing on the spot, and both local staff and people from other ISAF forces have access to the area where the truck was parked. Several thousand people are working and are stationed at the military base.

The man, who was employed of the Armed Forces since 2011 and came to Afghanistan in mid-April this year, has admitted the mistake. Pure carelessness, he says.

– He has pleaded guilty and is very remorseful.

Armed Forces have now decided that the employee shall receive the equivalent of 25 percent salary reduction for eight days. A relocation or temporary suspension is not up to date, according to Patrik Gardesten.

– In disciplinary matters, we have a graduated system where payroll deduction is the most important instrument we have in place down here. We have determined that there is an appropriate punishment.

Has he left the same tasks?

– Yes, he has.

Several incidents of killed and injured soldiers from the NATO-led ISAF troops in recent years makes it even more important to be thorough in their weapons, according to the Armed Forces.

“Missing weapons could fall into the hands of people who should not have guns in their possession or used for attacks on ISAF, the Afghan security forces or civilians,” the man in the decision.
