Promising prognosis for apples - Swedish Dagbladet

The first forecast for the upcoming season indicate that the harvest in all cases be significantly larger than last year.

return last year was really bad for many apple growers, when a cold spell in spring screwed up so that the apples were affected by frost damage.

years, conditions have been favorable. It shows the first so-called map touchdown forecast.

– We have been lucky with the weather so far. We had a good spring with some heat in the middle of May, when the trees are in bloom. It’s good. Is it hot working bees better, says Lars-Olof Börjesson, CEO of Apple Kingdom, a member-companies in Kivik which packs and markets the majority of the southern growers’ fruit.

forecast for the most common apple varieties in Swedish orchard, Ingrid Marie and Aroma, is promising. Only a few minor varieties Kim and Gloster seem to give slightly smaller harvests.

Yet dare Lars-Olof Börjesson not charge anything in advance.

– It looks good, it does absolutely, but only in a couple of weeks, we can express an opinion on the volume.

only real threat now is a possible hailstorm.

– Hail to in a minute destroy an entire culture. It’s really the only thing you are really afraid of that apple growers.
