The European Commission will support in IT research from the University of Skövde - Cision Wire (press release)

1.1 billion each year, it would be the public sector in the European Union to save on the use of open standards. The claim comes from the European Commission last week published a new guide to the area. The guidance is partly based on research from the University of Skövde. Research presented during the ongoing Almedalsveckan.

European Commission has presented a roadmap is meant to be used when public organizations in the Union shall develop and procure their IT systems. Some of the content in the guide is based on research from the University of Skövde.

– Not using open standards restricts competition authorities to expose their IT suppliers and thus shave IT costs through the roof. Moreover, there is a risk that important
information is lost when the system is not based on open standards are used, says Björn Lundell, assistant professor of computer science at the University of Skövde.
