Bildt will chair the inquiry into the future of the Internet - Swedish Dagbladet

The investigation has been named Global Commission on Internet Governence will run for two years. The goal is to develop recommendations for how the Internet should be governed in the future. Behind Commission stands two think-tank, The Centre for International Governance Innovation and Chatham House.

25 members large panel of including politicians, scientists and former intelligence employees to handle the investigation. Top liable to be Foreign Minister Carl Bildt. Bildt is currently in place in Montreux for the peace conference on Syria, and on Wednesday he commented also work on the investigation.

– This commission should be able to ensure that we get such a dynamic and free, and all accepted, the system for managing Internet, says Carl Bildt.

the Inquiry website ourinternet.org Commission will focus on four areas:

Strengthening the legitimacy of governance

to stimulate innovation

Ensuring Human Rights

avoid systemic risks

– Internet’ve worked brilliantly during its first decades, and grew out of the innovative power of innovators with a possibly complicated regulatory system. It is now being questioned in some quarters. Let’s see if we can find something new that preserves the dynamics and expression, and create a little more legitimacy, says Carl Bildt.

At the commission’s website ourinternet.org described the mission as developing a strategic vision for the future of the Internet. Work will begin in May 2014.

– Many of these issues are now the subject of a broad international debate. There is another commission headed by Estonian President Toomas Ilves, who shall make recommendations by the end of the year. Then we will take on, and look at the broader issues with a view to a report of perhaps two years, said Carl Bildt.

Censorship of the Internet is a controversial issue today, much depends on how China and Iran are acting. Meanwhile, also Edward Snowden’s revelations about U.S. NSA’s surveillance shaken many people and policy makers.

Friday told Obama Administration on its first findings from the White House review of the NSA. Also, the U.S. Congress and the European Parliament have initiated audits.
