SKL after Commissions Review: Getting older has digital security alarm - Today's Society

Today, Wednesday, sending Commissions Review SVT program about security alarms and highlights cases when the alarms have not worked. SKL was offered to participate but Commissions Review eventually chose to talk to other players. We would like to take this opportunity to discuss how elderly and disabled people to feel safe and have access to modern security services of high quality.

feeling of security of course, assumes that the security alarm works, but also that the user is fully aware of how it works. A security alarm is an important service to the elderly and disabled. It has made it possible for many people who want to live at home longer to do it. The user carries with it an alarm button and can easily press the button to attract attention from emergency clinic if hen for example has been dropped or ended up in another emergency.

But the alarm does not work outdoors, as the alarm button must be near a box that is installed in the home. Moreover, it is not the same alerting municipal security duty as to call SOS Alarm at 112, as to do in acute emergencies. This is important information that municipalities must spread.

It is distressing to hear talks about situations where security alarms did not function as they should, even if it is unusual. In these cases requires an open culture where municipalities reporting and investigating interventions where everything has not worked. One reason that some alarm does not hold sufficient quality is that most alarms available on the market today basically works the same as they did 40 years ago when they first started to be produced. For some years there are new digital versions, but only on a small scale. Of the approximately 200 000 security alarms available for people who live in their homes is less than 10 000 digital. The disadvantages of the old analog alarms include that they are not suited for telecommunications networks, which are digital.

Digital alarms, however, adapted to modern technology. They provide increased opportunities for both the user and the community to test and verify the quality of the whole emergency chain – from keystroke home to home service make contact with the person and determine what the alarm is valid. In the longer term, a technology also pave the way for more security services. It is especially important in the future as the number of elderly people in Sweden will be many more. Municipalities have begun work to implement the new technology, but they must also ensure that the current system works as it should.

In this work, we see to a regional collaboration between municipalities would help. Together municipalities to develop clear and consistent information about the security alarm to the users and to develop work with engineering, procurement and training. There is no reason that this is done in 290 different ways. SKL is working today to guide and support the municipalities in different ways. And it’s going to take part of a guide on SKL’s website.

order to succeed in technology shift must market vendors consistently offer digital security alarm. Also, it is important that society actors continue their efforts to expand the proportion of households that use both mobile and fixed broadband technology, so that all who need a security alarm can get it no matter where they live.

Our common ambition is the security alarm always work. A wide work for modern, quality assured security services is an important start.
