Russian crew took Mistral on test drive – New Technology

A Russian crew of 200 people sailed the weekend off with the French-built landing ship of the Mistral class for a test drive.

Just over a week ago, French President Francois Hollande that he wanted to stop the supply of the two helkopterbärande landing craft as the country builds for the Russian Navy.

The ships were ordered in 2011 and the first is almost ready for delivery. The second will be delivered next year.

Hollande acted under pressure from other Western countries to boycott deliveries to Russia, and especially sensitive, this boat business been because it involves military equipment.

But in the French shipyard town of Saint-Nazaire have been two Russian crews totaling 400 people waited to test drive the ships and later take them home to Russia.

And last Saturday night went a crew aboard the ship dubbed Vladivostok and then sailed early in the morning to begin test runs.

After Hollande’s statement, representatives of the French Government explained to the Russian leaders that the contract the ships are still legally valid. The president will take their final decision on the delivery until the end of October.
