IT giants investing heavily in gadgets with sensors and cloud services for health data. The data could streamline the general care, but Swedish hospitals is difficult flirted.

Only the last year the IT giants perfectly churning out new gadgets and services for fitness and health. Many of them hope to link the information on to the health care system.

Among the many examples: the Samsung Gear Fit, Apple Health Kit, Google Fit and Microsoft HealthVault.

IT giants vision is the need for less reactive and more proactive health care services in future. With sensor-filled bracelets and watches may be health data is recorded continuously. And by analyzing the information can diseases be prevented and mitigated.

Instead of the doctor takes a blood sample on a single occasion in order to draw conclusions about the patient’s health status, supplements the doctor test with the patient’s own collected data on everything from blood pressure and sugar to the weight and sleep.

About so reason IT giants.

Many agree: now is the time for the big breakthrough for digital health, believes several experts New technologies have spoken with.

Broadband expansion and digitalisation of people’s homes is an explanation. Other mentions that the measurement sensors have come down in price and that people have become accustomed to manage smartphones and apps Runkeeper.

With tools that can handle analysis of large amounts of data, opens up fantastic opportunities to prevent and mitigate, according to proponents. An aging population combined with poor finances of municipalities and counties also drives development.

But it’s IT giants Swedish people want to manage their health data is far from obvious. We will have advertising on light beverages when weight increases and a higher premium from the insurance company when the blood pressure has increased?

Who owns the health information that it Group companies in collecting? Sheep third party the right to use the information? And what happens to a person’s health data when it decides to replace mobile brand or search engine?

This is one of those issues that is behind the creation of the new Swedish E-health officials, who developed a personal health account, Health for me, to be offered to the residents.

– Many prefer that the state is responsible for a safe and neutral repository of health information. There, neither commercial operators or caregivers to access information but only inhabitant himself. And the account costs nothing, says Eva Leach Elfgren on E-Health Authority.

Those who wish will be able to share information with related parties, and you will also be able to connect their account to various health träningsappar.

The Agency sees itself not as a competitor to the IT giants.

– No, the idea is that Google, Apple, Samsung, yes, all who want to join the Health for me, says Eva Leach Elfgren.

The state health service is seriously delayed because the procurement of Capgemini’s technology solution was appealed. Only now, in May an agreement has been concluded between Capgemini and E Health Authority. The establishment of the service is expected to be completed in February next year.

– Samsung has shown interest. TeliaSonera also. And Microsoft is the provider of the IT system. But neither Google nor Apple have been in touch, says Eva Leach Elfgren.

In the US tested the Apple Health Kit (see box) already in several hospitals. But nobody in Sweden has grasped yet.

Uppsala University Hospital has chosen to work with TeliaSonera.

– That it was precisely Telia’s a bit of a coincidence. It could have been any of the other IT companies. Market’ve exploded, says Maria Pettersson, IT administrator at Uppsala County Council.

– We want to tie together the entire chain , to transfer the data from people in the medical record applications. Telia has developed its own health account that will facilitate this.

Linköping University Hospital awaiting national directives, and at Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg be hesitant to let the big IT companies for the management of health data.

– The uncertainty about the ownership of the collected material is for big. But in the future we hope to use such aids, says Anette Falk Roth, Medical Director at the hospital.
