Toyota’s fuel cell bus market in 2016 – New Technology – New Technology

Toyota’s fuel cell buses being tested in Tokyo.

Toyota is testing fuel cell buses in central Tokyo. Next year the technology to be ready for launch.

In January this year the Japanese Toyota fuel cell-powered Bus operating in regular public transport in Toyota City. Now in July, the company has begun to run fuel cell buses even in dense inner-city traffic in central Tokyo. In addition to testing the vehicle can handle different traffic environments, pilot tests show how coaches can benefit nödkraftverk when there is a power failure.

Fuel cell buses operated hydrogen and releases only water vapor. The powertrain is based on the same technology as the fuel cell vehicle Toyota Mirai which went on sale in Japan in December last year. But the system is much stronger dimensioned.

  • Hydrogen is stored in eight high-pressure tanks that hold 70 megapascals. A total contained 480 liters of hydrogen.
  • Two fuel cell stacks that both have a maximum power output of 114 kilowatts converts hydrogen into electricity.
  • The bus is powered by two electric motors that have the capacity 110 kilowatts each.

If all goes according to plans, the bus, which can accommodate 76 passengers, launched commercially during in 2016.
